i've been subscribing to sirius satellite radio since 2005. diehard stern fan. never listen to regular radio anymore. any thing good from regular radio is broadcast on sirius anyhow. all the npr channels, etc. so i dont miss my prarie home companion. :)

Diane Rehm would kick Stern's ass.

Doubt it, but if you're interested in some real good talk radio, check out Melvyn Bragg.

Nah. Rehm would have both of their asses in a full nelson.

I actually listened to Diane Rehm and didn't find it to be anywhere near the level of Stern or In Our Time... each to their own however...

Until I started working at a hi-fi store last month I believed radio to be dead, but we're actually selling quite alot of radios, both AM/FM and DAB.

i feel a total disconnect with the world or something if i listen to cd's on the way to work.

i have like an hour long commute (only like 19 more days though and then it is bike city!!!) so i like the radio for the traffic info and or breaking news.
i typically listen to the peak or kslx or, yes, movin' 97.9!

however, as far as music goes, i rarely buy things from the radio although i am lovin' that they play the death cab for cutie single on the edge! ;)

i usually listen to the radio in my car, even if i have my mp3 player with me.

i grew accustomed to it when i had my first car (am/fm radio only), and now it just doesn't feel right to listen to anything else.

98.7 and 104.3 are pretty much awesome.

i also enjoy listening to 103.9 on my way to work so i can hear the adam carolla show (even if i'm on my bike, i'll use the fm function to listen to it).

yay radio!

i went to school for radio broadcasting, had an internship at a major metro-detroit radio station for 6 months (normally held for 3 months unless they like you) and graduated top of my class with honors. though this does not make me an authority in any way, shape, or form, i think that gives me some leverage if i should need to argue my stance.

i believe radio is dying, but is trying so very hard to remain relevant that, to some extent, that's all they need to be viable/still alive.

I believe that since the radio is such a simple, cheap and easy-to-use device with free content that it will never completely go away. Maybe if nu-country and Nickelback weren't so terrible radio wouldn't be on such a slide. Radio has researched itself to death -- a quick perusal of any recent copy of Radio & Records will make you roll your eyes in disgust at what stations and labels are trying to come up with in order to turn people into zombies. BTW, since it's relevant, I was on the radio for four years.

Diane Rehm is a proper journalist/interviewer, Howard Stern is an entertainer.

I spent a few years in the construction field, I have heard enough Howard Stern to last me a lifetime.

As for radio, I spent 5 years in the field, at 4 stations....the last one I worked at in New England, dumped it's format (which was DJ driven...you had to make the MD a mix tape to get the job, kinda cool) to go satellite feed (sports)...really sad...I worked at 'the Edge' here in Phoenix for a verrrrrrrrrry short time.....it was bulllllllshit.....I never tried to get back into radio after that...that was in '94 I think....somewhere there is an air tape of me introducing Stome Temples as the 'cutting edge of rock'......ugh.

In our time is more in line with Diane Rehm... Stern still owns her in terms of interviews imho.

Disagreed, but we're honestly at they point of personal preference. Generational stalemate!

Radio's been dead for a long time, it just hasn't realized it yet.

That being said, I have Sirius in my car and I mostly flip between Alt Nation and Left of Center, that keeps me pretty happy. It's all downloaded stuff everywhere else though, I can't think of the last time I turned a radio on at home to listen to music.
