Does anyone else use their bike as a regular source of transportation?

How the hell do you keep from being all damn sweaty? Do you just take a change of clothes with you? Shower at work? How do these people operate?

That's funny, but aside from riding slow, I'm curious how people use their bikes. I have a couple of Trek grocery bags that I can attach to my bike rack and ride it down to the bank and grocery store. I'm thinking about upgrading to a more road friendly bike such as a hybrid from my shitty old mountain bike. I'd really like to use my vehicle less and make more use of public transportation in conjunction with my bike, but I really don't want to be the sweaty and stinky when I get to where I'm going

I commute to work every day on my bike... or at least I ride about .8 miles to the light rail, then over to ASU, and on the bike another half mile up to my office.

When it's under about 100F, I'll use the bike to get around all over downtown. Note my job is mostly t-shirt and shorts or jeans... dressing up means a wrinkled polo shirt. Or anything with buttons.

Really, one should *not* be all sweaty after riding one mile unless you're racing and/or it's 120F. It's just not far enough to soak your clothes. It's like 6 minutes of walking, except you have the added benefit of increased airflow causing any sweat to evaporate.

I used to ride my bike over to ASU from downtown, almost 10 miles each way... and I'd bring a change of clothes for that. It'd get gross sometimes.

Note that I have two bikes - a decent road bike for covering ground fast/efficiently, which I ride most days, and an old Schwinn "Speedster" middle-weight 3-speed with a rack & fenders that I use for slow comfy rides AND for poor weather days (fenders help keep the water off). I don't think I could really work hard enough on the old Schwinn to break a sweat... so like Quezo says: if it's an issue, go slow.

I've never sweat through my clothes but unless I'm at a show I'm not a sweaty person. Extra deoderant and an extra shirt, but my job is also really casual
