Tribes lose.
Actually it happened Monday.
This might not the be the forum for it but it sucks to me personally. It sets a precedent regarding the legitimacy of Native American religions and the places they (we) hold sacred.
A lot of Navajo/Hopi money gets pumped into the Flagstaff (bordertown) economy not to mention the number of Native American students that attend NAU (tuition $$$) that it's hard (for me) to stomach the insensitivity the actual town, not to mention the US Supreme court, has towards our beliefs.

i think you should start a thread about this. i think it's horrible. It treads on people's rights, it destroys a designated wilderness preserve and it uses reclaimed wastewater which is gross.
just so people can ski? fuck that shit.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

well, i agree with your point about the wastewater being gross, and fucking up a wildlife preserve isn't cool. but "(G)iving one religious sect a veto over the use of public park land would deprive others of the right to use what is, by definition, land that belongs to everyone," Judge Carlos Bea wrote in the majority ruling.
i gotta say, i agree with that statement. i'd be up in arms if the catholic church said "no, you can't build that here because we believe jesus has lives in the mountain". ironically, if catholics said that, they'd probably get whatever they want, but that's a whole other topic. but making a religious claim to public land? native american or otherwise, i'm not for it.
i don't necessarily agree that they should have snowmaking up there - especially with the wastewater, etc., but i think the religious argument is irrelevant.Andy Bessler of the Sierra Club said, "We think there are other legal options."
um, i'm pretty sure there aren't. it was the US Supreme Court. i thought that's where it ended.
