NO

pretty much everything was meat or if not, had cream-based sauces and lots of cheese.

my sister is vegan and she went with us last night and could only get a salad.

She said it was a good salad though.

been eating at la pinata on 19th for like the last 30 years. used to think that was the best but I think its been going down hill for a while now.

Popos in maryvale/west indianschool wins hands down. big ass bowls of garlic filled salsa and great food overall. they have a maraichie band on fridays too if that's your thing.

second would be via di los santos on central and hatcher. lots and lots of tequilla the sippin kind. and they have this mexican pasta thing I hear is amazing. (the mary lou rocks too)

mucho gusto in tempe is really good for that "newer" mexican style.

There used to be a place on Rural & Baseline in Tempe called Casa Romero. They were amazing. The owner used to hang out and bitch about George Bush all the time, which would've been good enough, but their food was awesome! I wish someone could tell me where the rest of the family and/or the recipies went.....

for you westsiders, my number one mexican place is raul and theresa's on buckeye/main st./mc85 and litchfield. opposite corner of the goodyear airport.

my other favs that have been mentioned; pancho's (baseline and central, not the chain), carolina's, la pinata, matador...

some others not mentioned; susie's (16th st. and broadway, same people run susie's in tempe), mi patio (osborn and 7th ave.)

and since it was brought up, carambas uses lard-free beans.

Awesome thread. I like the aforementioned La Canasta (right by the overpass/bridge), Carolina's, Poncho's (baseline killer, yo), Susie's in Tempe, La Tolteca and some of the others mentioned that slip my mind right now.

Since work is taking me to Central Phx to day, I'm thinking of trying Juan's as I've heard many good things about it. The other I've heard about but never tried is Rito's @ 14th St and Garfield.

I like dives.

I forgot to mention Oaxaca on Van Buren and 15th Ave. They have a mariachi band on fridays, good margaritas, cool place, good food.

I really like that place.

i grew up in south phoenix so i'm partial to ponchos. sit in the presidential room!

oaxaca is great too. but i work there so i'm biased. friday nites we have mariachi but if ur intent is to sit, talk and have a nice dinner it gets super noisy and most people bitch about it. after the mariachi we have a dj and its a great place to get drunk, dance and make a fool out of yourself without running into anybody you know. probably.

Oaxaca is pretty great. They make some of my favorite margaritas.

The one bummer is that their remodeling kind of ruined the coziness of the place. The sarape-lined lounge was one of my favorite things about them.

A patio was gained, though.
