All kinds of really pretty great mexican to be had around here... depends on your tastes, but my favorites include mostly Globe/Miami style places.
Casa Reynoso (tempe)
Los Compadres (7th ave)
Rito's (14th & Garfield)
Ranch Market (food court) or Tradiciones
America's Taco Shop on 7th isn't bad either (only vaguely mex food)
HUNGRY

I ate at a place in chicago and it was awesome!! HUGE burritos and So good!
I have no Idea what it was called cause I was wasted!
My ranking for good mexican food by state goes
Sandiego
Newmexico
Chicago
Arizona
don't drink so much in chicago because they do not know how to make mexican food nor do they have water that needs to be involved unless they ship it in. hot dogs and pizza i can give to them but mexican food no.

i agree, sorry yahoo, yet again you suck at something so simple, i guess i should not be surprised.

I would like to add to this list because while Ponchos is alright it aint no Carolina's
it also aint no:
El Comal (when it was still around)
Rosa's
Tia Rosa's
El Charros
Mattas
Pedro's
and top of the list would be Los Dos Molinos for me cause I love the heat...
.....
then again none of these had anything on the carnitas in Juarez.. mmmmm...

wow. how did that make the list?
as for mexican food in chicago. it is super hit or miss. my moms side of the family is mexican and they
all live in the suburbs...about 45 minutes by metra. the neighborhood is predominately mexican and
there are some great latino groceries, vendors, etc. as for restaurants though, i cant remember really ever eating at a
great mexican place. we always cooked at home and ate out for like pizza and other non mexi-food!
when i got older and traveled back each year, i spent much more time in the city and ate a some ok places.
i still stand by that AZ has some of the BEST mexican food of the places that i have lived. tia rosas, los dos molinos(a HUGE fan of the heat!), frank and lupes, barrio cafe and mi patio to name a few. i havent found a really good family style place here in ca. taco trucks, yes...and may i say that they are top notch here!

El Portal is an old classic. The valley's Latino and liberal politicians hang out there and it's owned by Mary Rose Wilcox (yes, the one who was shot in the butt for voting to finance Chase Field). We were in there for lunch the other day when Sotomayor was confirmed. CNN was on and Wilcox made an announcement about the confirmation and the whole place erupted in cheers and applause.
I grew up on Rito's, Mi Patio and Los Compadres. Mi Patio is my fave of those three--it's owned by Greeks

Barrio is way too pricey. Never go there even though it's in walking distance. Los Dos is great for the heat, but they use lard in their beans which is no bueno for this vegetarianista. At least El Portal offers beans w/o lard. Eat your dinner, Tina, you fat lard.
Poncho's? Really?
