It's a valid point.

Are they counting programming that intends to "educate about the horrors of domestic violence" as depictions of domestic violence?

That's kind of counting things incorrectly.

i blame the lifetime/oxygen/hallmark channel. they always have women getting beaten. ALWAYS

Totes! but they didn't study that channel! they only studied CBS, NBC, FOX, and ABC

plus who wants to watch Mother May I Sleep With Danger more than once?

(Is this a comedy?. Apparently. - one review on IMBD)

A while back I was the “threatening male figure” in a Women Fight back class at my workplace. This class teaches women how to first avoid and second get out of dangerous situations. The instructor stated the organization and has been growing. She mentioned she is looking for women to train to be instructors. I have no idea if it would be a paying gig or not, but it would certainly be interesting. I was impressed with the instructor.

yeah, i guess just to beat a (female) dead horse, i think this probably has a lot to do with the exponentially increased amount of crime drama on network tv, and a lot of those show are a lot more "gritty" than they used to be. i almost used the word "realistic" but that's of course not accurate. i, perhaps obviously, generally like these shows. but a show like law and order: svu is all brutal rapes and torture. i'm sure that show alone brings the stats up a great deal.

i remember when i was a little kid, i was sort of allowed to watch 'R' movies. violence was cool, things blowing up, dudes getting blown up, people getting shot, etc, but once some boobs were on the screen, the TV went off until the boobs or sex were gone. i'm sure that's had no effect on how i developed.
