Note that I'm an amateur alt-country type singer/songwriter being recruited for a show at Big Fish... seems unlikely to me. Not that I wouldn't try it if it were legit :-) ANYWAY, just curious what y'all know.

I got a similar email skeksis. I can't tell if they are a scam or what, but I am leery. It looks like they are putting together some show with like 15 bands at rhythm room this month.
If they mention you paying money to them for any reason or selling X amount of tickets, I would stay far away.

Dangerville just got contacted by someone from Nemesis.
It seemed pretty innocuous, but I was pretty leery of the pay-for-play thing.
I found their website and saw that they were putting together those showcases at Rhythm Room.
I Googled them and lo and behold, here I am at The Shizz!
I'm considering writing back and letting him know what Dangerville's rider consists of and the varying pay scales that our contract demands.

bands are just lazy and don't want it bad enough these days.
I know this is gonna piss people off but that sorta true. I mean honestly if you cant draw more than 5 people you are costing a venue money, and thats usually do to the fact you are playing 4 shows a week and not promoting any of them.

honestly, I'd love to hear the economic reasoning behind that statement. 5 people is still more than the zero that would be there without this hypothetical band. IF this band has $200 guarantee or something, then yeah you're losing $. A lot of places around here don't offer any guarantee plus the band pays the soundguy (out of door proceeds)... So it costs the venue almost nothing to have a band perform... A few pennies for electricity, maybe a handful of drink tokens. Easily offset by the 5 folks who turned out.
Sure a rational venue would prefer 50 over 5; but 5 > 0.

its like this: i know bands that dont promote, dont draw, and all bail out after they are done playing. compared to a band that actually does those things, you would be losing money. then these same kids wonder why no one books them...
