I go thru phases where I'm all about flyers, and then not at all.
I mean actual paper flyers.
(Internet ones are easy to do, and eye catching, so why the f*ck not.)
But where to put them is pain in the ass.
Zia's and most stores are a wreck, and if i'm looking for shows I'm likely to skip those racks just because they don't waste a minute trying to order the display, so I hardly leave 'em there either.
Same w/ Conspire and a lot of other places.
I mean, really, is it so hard to assign one of the mouth breathers working your counter to spend 30 minutes going thru the flyer table ever 3 or 4 days?
On the other hand, I think, if you're playing a show and you don't bother to make some, you're just not doing your job as a band.
I've found the best success, when I can actually hand someone a flyer, and describe why I think they should come to a show. It's not time efficient, but people respond better to them and it makes a better mental "bookmark".

i used to have fun pretending i was malcolm mclaren and would use wall paper paste to put up flyers, messy fun!
-trunkspaceAll the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.
