I really don't like the taste of coffee that much..
same here.. i get this vanilla latte thing or whatever it is from the vending machine here at work every morning and it's pretty awesome. essentially, it's the closest you can come to a vanilla hot chocolate with caffeine.
but other coffees, no thanks. if i find myself dragged into a starbucks, i'll get an italian soda. apparently they're not on their menu anymore but they'll typically whip one up for ya if you ask.

i always try to buy local but i don't throw a fit if starbucks is the only thing i can find when i need a coffee. this is why:
a friend of mine has terrible arthritis all over, so bad that it has affected the way she walks, most specifically because it was in her knees. Her boyfriend worked at starbucks and got her covered under his insurance policy through Starbucks, and that insurance ended up paying for her to get two knee replacements. TWO! so now she has titanium knees, and can walk much easier and can stand fully upright, thanks to starbucks' health insurance coverage extended to the significant other of one of its employees. that shit is unbelievable.
say what you will about market saturation, strip-mallification and homogenization of our cities, taking care of employees like that deserves recognition.

I definitely agree that Starbucks is good to it's employees and is not on my list of "hated" corporations. That still doesn't take away the elitism of the barristas that work there. To clarify, Starbucks isn't the only coffee shop to have elitist barristas
I agree with Allisonorphan, the coffee is consistent at starbucks, it's like any other large corporate chain, it's not great, but it is definitely consistant and you know what you are going to get no matter where you go for starbucks.

#1 reason I hate Starbucks: I think their coffee sucks.
I don't do crazy drinks, I just get coffee or maybe an Americano. Up until recently I never drank coffee black but I never overdid it with cream and sugar. But at Starbucks I always have to. Even now I would never drink their coffee black.
Luckily there are very few Starbucks around here. I can tell you where 2 are and they are within a mile of each other on the other side of town where all the shopping centers are. There's actually a good variety of coffee shops in town and people seem to enjoy local stuff rather than commercial stuff.
My sister works at a coffee shop in the town I grew up in (where the rest of my family lives). She recently considered working at Starbucks for better pay, and luckily she realized she would hate it there.

I haven't been in there yet, but I was just in that neighborhood last week. Interesting idea, but the business side of starbucks prevents it from being actually cool. The beer selection for example.

If this guy were to open his own coffee shop, would you be excited to go there?

And if this guy were to open his own coffee shop what sweets would be on your list to eat?? I'm doing some research and need to narrow down my search of recipes.
