I don't normally do the boycott thing, but I will gladly boycott anything having to do with Russell Pearce. I hate that mofo!

This thread gave me the idea to make an iPhone/Android/whatever barcode scanner app. Instead of telling you where you can get products cheaper, it will tell you the political affiliation of products you consider buying.

I like Jacki's idea. It seems incredibly easy to get all this info compared to years ago, and the effort required to not buy something or buy an alternative is easy as well. Sure, the effect might be minimal but you can't just shoot for the moon. It's not like we are being asked to go somewhere or protest in public or risk arrest or be super vocal or whatever makes it kind of a pain to protest. Hell you aren't being asked to change your diet or anything. Just don't buy a case of High Life next time you are at the store. Even if it has little to no effect, it's worth the minimal effort on principle alone. I imagine though that if I really researched everything I buy, I would not want to purchase anything...

Oh well I can still drink Busch and Bud and Cobra and smoke Camels guilt free until I find out otherwise.

Some liquid willpower and a laziness extractor would be nice. All in all a barcode scanner is not hard to make for Android. The issue is creating and maintaining a database of all this info. But hey I am out of a job, let's make a non-profit org to do it!

oh man that is a brilliant idea Raub!!! i would so love to have that app on my phone! i bet you'd get a shit ton of downloads. i will help you do this! i dont know squat about technology (except that me likey) but i'll help if you need it. i could be a "financial backer"
