This is quite a read, and not for the faint of heart. I was totally engrossed with this and thought it deserved it's own thread in the main forum.

It's a persons experience of 22 months in prison.

holy shit that was intense.

i took a voluntary (not incarceration-induced) prison tour a few months ago for work and was allowed to sit in the chair in the gas chamber. i remember thinking, "woah, check out the cool 40's-era ironwork". the adjacent room with the lethal injection table was far more terrifying. it was all very clinical, linoleum tile and stucco on the inside walls. most notably, there were sound baffles in case the inmate began to scream and a tiny microphone over where the inmate's head would be for last words. i didn't lie down on the table. the rest of the prison was really interesting, we wore stab-proof vests when walking through the maximum security wards. all in all, it was incredibly unsettling as you would expect and i left wanting to donate to the innocence project.

I could take the guy more seriously if perhaps he didn't do heroin?

I think anything can seem more horrible than it really is if you are whacked out of your brain on H. I am sure it probably sucked, but drugs seem to intensify things.

This was a good read, for sure. It reminded me of that one blog about the wilderness camps that some girl was on. In a roundabout way.

Overall, this also kind of made me want a prison pen pal. I need to get a P.O. Box.

I just found out today one of my Cousins is going in for 5 years. I sent this to his mom (my aunt). I am thinking now that I probably shouldn't have :(

I thought it was a good idea at the time.

damn, I really feel like a dick right now.

Hey D, don't be so hard on yourself. You didn't know when you sent this to her.

Just bad timing I guess, Happens to everybody.

Sorry about your cuz, bro.

better that everybody involved knows what to expect. if i was about to do some time, i'd be glad to have that as a primer. i mean, you know it's going to be bad. but at least you'd know what was coming and how to deal with certain situations.

well...i don't think the story was told to turn anyone on. I, myself, appreciate the harshness of the detail. Turned my stomach thinking about watching a guy get his guts pulled out in front of me, but that's what the story is about. No punches pulled... The stories you hear about prison in the movies or tv shows are just that, watered down versions, maybe intentionally, as not let on how bad conditions there really are. I agree with one of the people asking questions, i think this guy would do a whole lot of good speaking to kids letting them know how much you really DON'T want to go to jail... Better than some cop or public speaker trying to be convincing.
