I don't like the whole shopping/gift thing. If we do the gift thing it's either homemade gifts or money.
What the hell am I gonna do when I have kids? Will they somehow feel neglected if we don't buy into the whole holiday shopping/gift giving thing?
probably not. i asked my son (who recently turned 3) what he wanted for christmas, and the whole concept just blew his mind. he couldn't wrap his brain around the notion that he could make a list of things that he wanted and that somebody might give them to him. after we got past the initial shock, he concluded that he wanted more toy cars (about 99 cents each) and that was it. so i could literally spend $5 on him and he'd be happy as a clam. i also have some moving boxes, and i might just give him one of those to play with. because he's 3, and that shit is awesome when you're 3. so in that sense, you could give your kid anything and they wouldn't feel neglected.
on the other hand, if you neglect them, they'll feel neglected.
