and they all worked for the SS....

i can honestly say that as soon as that dude came out, i whispered to my girlfriend that he looked like a member of the SS. he had a hitler haircut (except poorly dyed and reddish/brown [i guess he's usually bald]), jet black suit with a bright red tie, and had that wwII cartoonish german puffy face. he was one narrow mustache shy of a full on hitler costume. i feel juvenile thinking it and saying it but it was that spot on. :-/

Some Libertarian

this guy was both a riot and a trainwreck to watch. he seemed mostly unprepared and was clearly not a great speaker. while that shouldn't prevent you from serving the public, you're certainly not helping your cause. i have to give him props for having the balls to stand up there and say that we need to fire more cops, stop supporting the arts, etc. i don't think i agreed with a single thing he said but it took some guts to get up there knowing that 99% of the crowd would be shaking their heads and snickering at every response you put out.

so yeah.. thane eichenaur will not be getting my vote. a friend of mine says he knows the guy and that he's very intelligent. i didn't get that from his participation. his twitter: twitter.com/ilovegrover

peggy neely struck me as super fake and the ultimate polished mom politician ala sarah palin. also not getting my vote.

wes gullett, while he seemed sincere, was too conservative for my taste.

this leaves claude mattox and greg stanton. both did a great job presenting their cases and both were more along the lines of how i would vote. both support neighborhoods, education, police, the arts, environmental issues, etc. so i'll need to see more from both of them to help me decide.

funny sidenote.. when you google "wes gullett" the first result is "claude mattox for mayor" lol

Some background on the 2

Stanton (D: 6th council district)was appointed to the city council in 2000, elected twice, and resigned in 2009 after being appointed Deputy Attorney General. Major council accomplishments were bringing TGen to downtown's ASU campus to boost jobs. Also was the only candidate to vote against CityNorth.

Mattox (R: 5th Council District) has been elected to the council 3 times. Accomplishments include having billboards placed around the city warning parents of unattended pools resulting in childhood drownings decreasing since they went up.

Gullett has the lowest support of any candidate and Mattox hopes to pick up his supporters if he drops out, that is probably why his name comes up when you google Gullett.

hmm yes interesting indeed. i guess we'll see how they work out. i would think for the smaller elections they would be fine but for the presidential election, they might get super crowded....

Got my early ballot! I was just reading up a bit on the candidates and Mattox is musician. He plays in the Screamin' Javelinas. In fact he missed one of the mayoral debates because he was playing a gig in San Diego.

for some people that'll be a "yeah, this dude's a rocker!" kind of reaction. to me, while it may or may not indicate where his priorities lie, i don't think it's a good thing that he bailed on a debate. unless you've got a family member in the hospital or something, get your ass there.

Today is the last day to vote!! If you got your ballot in the mail it is too late to mail it back in but you can drop it off at any polling place in the city.
