It was the deadliest single twister in the U.S. in nearly 60 years and the second major tornado disaster in less than a month.


they are just getting pummeled in the midwest/tornado alley. i grew up in central illinois and tornadoes are nothing to mess with. scary horrible shit.

my mom lives in montgomery, al and it seems half the time i talk to her she's talking about some weather warning on the news and that they might have to hide out in the bathroom or something. yeah, they live in a trailer. welcome to alabama.

yeah we had a tornado shelter thingy in our basement growing up. as a kid i used to have nightmares of tornadoes coming and destroying our house. tornadoes scare the shit out of me. they are so unpredictable and so massively destructive.

i can remember when i was around 8 or 9, there was a tornado warning in phoenix. i was at a babysitter's house and we were all figuring out which closets and bathrooms everyone was going to have to hide in (no, this is not a setup for a "babysitter touched me in the closet" joke). i'm pretty sure that's the only tornado warning i can remember in the valley.

i was all blazed last night falling asleep, and saw LITERALLY 30 seconds of glenn becks new smug 'im a serious reporter' show before there were comparisons to why 'these farmers' (aka white, true americans) were so much better than 'those people on the roof after katrina' (you know, THOSE PEOPLE)

my sister is in the southern part of Wisconsin and she has been texting me daily about the tornado sirens going off. Scares me for her and her kids.

Looks like the OKC area is in the crosshairs at this particular moment. Several dozen tornadoes reported.

my uncle is a storm chaser (his name's warren faidley, he was the first full-time
storm chaser ever. i'm very proud of him ). he's in piedmont ok now and was
al when the tornadoes hit there. for about 10 hrs today, we didn't know if he was
alive. his latest update is that 3 children are still missing.

Goddamn...when you see a picture of destruction like that with nothing to compare it to, you don't get the same perspective...but actually seeing what was there and what it looks like now...fuck.

I can't even imagine living in a place where tornadoes like that are possible. I've heard people say the same to me about living in earthquake country, but it's rare to even feel a small earthquake, and the big ones are usually spaced out by 20 years or so and still cause nowhere near as much destruction as these twisters that basically cancel entire towns.
