Former New York Giants player David Tyree was among the celebrities on both sides of the issue. He said in Albany on Monday that God may have given him the ability to make his stunning, one-handed catch to help the Giants win the Super Bowl in 2007 so he would have a platform to oppose gay marriage today. "I am not a political person, but gay marriage isn't a political issue," he said. "This not about right and left, but about right and wrong."

Well on one hand I respect the need for equal legal rights for all people regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual preference. But on the other hand he won a Super Bowl, so I'm not so sure where I stand.

sounds like someone who won the super bowl is totally in the closet about being a big fat gay.

i wish he would actually waste his time and money on something legit like AIDS or Cancer or MS or war or poverty or homelessness or child hunger or getting American kids off their fat asses and exercising. You know, something that needs his help, not his hate.

I saw that. In this kind of debate people say some really dumb things, but also say some awesome things as well, like this Republican who is explaining why he decided to vote in favor of equality.

“You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing,” McDonald, 64, told reporters. “You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, fuck it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing. “I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this.”

Right, but jacki, he won the super bowl.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

Also, it's hard to argue with someone who has the position that gay marriage is "wrong."

If it's not a political issue then why is this douche trying to force his opinion onto other people via the legal/political system?

EDIT:

for the record, I take the (unrealistic) libertarian position that the state shouldn't be involved with sanctioning/certifying any kind of marriage to begin with. since that's not going to happen, "gay" marriage should be legalized for purpose equality.

My reposting of this news story, w/ a typo, was clearly the deciding moment of this debate.
