Hi everyone. I just moved to PHX and want to know if there are any interesting, challenging local bands I should keep an eye on. I' am always looking for variations of the 90's Chicago/Louisville post-rock genre. I' am also a fan of dream-pop/shoegaze bands like Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine and genre-less bands like Devotchka. I would like to meet other musicians as well and was told "Go to shows and you'll meet people there." I looked at the Arizona reverbnation.com chart for any upcoming shows and became frustrated seeing how many people listed themselves under the independent genre when they are clearly not.

Well you could look on the main page of the shizz for some good ones although it seems like it's non existent for some reason. check out Tempe Starving Artist they are really good for finding new interesting bands. You could also check out Sounds Around Town where this guy mitchell picks some great bands and writes extensively about them (I'm biased though since he writes about my band Instructions) Either way you should browse around those sites to get a feel and then go to shows at the trunkspace or longwongs for some good local talent. Hope this was helpful!

Thanks, this does help. I like your music. Kinda reminds me of Helio Sequence for some reason.

Man Hands (punk/garage rock)

Dez Vibz (psych rock)

I'm sure you can find links for these bands, but I've seen these local bands and they're all good:::

Shovel, Otro Mundo, Soft Shoulder, Chandails, Christian Filardo, Destruction Unit, Mangled Men, Lenguas Largas, North Dakota, Donny & The Dorks, French Girls, Numbats, Body of light, Vial of Sound, Waytansea Point, The Tongues, Marshstepper, Oust, Minibosses, Goya, Lusitania, Fanapth, Lago, Odds + Sods, Plainfield Butchers, and there's def more - there's a lot of good bands here in PHX for sure!

I play in these 2 bands, you can check them out if you want
