Eddy Detroit has a new CD - his 2nd in 6 months! - pay attention, see him play, and buy his discs - he is one of the last of a dying breed, locally - that is, a highly creative musician who operates on a very modest level -
kudos to the PHX music press for not breathing a goddamn word about the death of Sun City Girls' drummer/vocalist Charlie Gocher - seriously, it is fucking shameful - not only because a tribute was not paid to such a magical artist FROM PHOENIX; but also because the lack of awareness of such vital art, especially in the field of music in this city, is embarrassing -
longevity does not necessarily equate stagnation - a frivolous, convoluted art that paints itself into a corner (the "burned bright, but briefly" cliche); an art that makes an aggressive show of its transgression while really only achieving violations of refined approaches past, only runs in place in a cheap, monotonous rotation that breaks down after one week and is immediately replaced by another - shrill, flashy, measured rule-breaking gives way to slavish, ant-like conformity...FAST -
just a quickie thought before your return to the black, swirling, bottomless whirlpool of name-dropping and networking -

who is "doctor shumway?" and why is he yawning at me? -

dear pseudonym: coldplay, radiohead, the fray, the shins, flaming lips, etc........

can we be friends now? - flaming lips? - colorplaycoldstore? -

did you colorplaycoldstore your flaming lips in the shins? -

i heard the new arcade fire album is supposed to be good - hey! - relations! -

who else? - did you know that there is a new modest mouse album out? -

how old are you, pseudonym? -

do you watch sitcoms, umm...guy who calls himself "doctor shumway?" -

let me guess - "scrubs" -

that is the real yawn, my friend - whatever you are into - THAT is the real yawn -

if you're commenting on Charlie, my advice is to flip tearfully through your high school yearbook and ruminate on the pathetic gestures of childish transgression you currently cling to, even though you're probably over 30 years old -

congratulations to you for holding onto your ideals! - someday someone will pay you for your insightful opinions - but as of now, you are just a lonely "doctor" -

stay on the side of the fence that was cleary demarcated: clueless...

I'm yawning at your gimmick. I like this thread because people can just say what they're listening to and maybe give some other members new bands to check out. You come in this thread and go off about people's music tastes and their "name-dropping" and put people down. Which sucks because you do offer up some good bands to check out. Too bad you do it in a way that makes me never ever want to listen to them again. It's fucking boring dude. Why don't you kick back, relax and let people enjoy what they want to enjoy without being a huge dick about it? Does it really hurt you deep in your soul that someone might like a band that has sold a few records, so much so that you resort to personal attacks? If so, that's pretty childish. I summed up your bullshit in one word, how long did this ridiculous screed this take you? Apologies in advance if it cut into the 4 hours block you schedule for listening to olde timey megaphone records on your Victrola.

Arguing on the internet. Win = still retarded. Etc. Etc.

*name dropper warning*

just picked these up ...

(my good friend) Miles Davis - Ascenseur Pour l'Échafaud ... a 1957 soundtrack to a french movie, smoky and dark, I really like this one.

(other buddies) The Beach Boys - Friends - 20/20 ... Low-key sunkissed pop; though this isn't the genius of Pet Sounds it is still excellent .. possibly the most listenable all the way through of their catalog. I haven't had that 'oh that track is lame' feeling yet.

Spacemen 3 ! I don't remember the name, but it's a collection of their early singles. Go figure that I have only been able to find Spacemen 3 records in Tucson.

I cant help but associate your avatar with your posts: I imagine a big Panda munching on bamboo, saying: "Yawn...chill out and don't be dick."

munch, munch.

....................

When I lift at a the local community ctr, I get to listen to pretty good stuff:

Fergie: Fergalicious, and Glamourous (totally Flossy)
Akon: Nobody wants to see us together.....(seriously...WTF?...i guess 12 year old really respond to this)
Nelly Furtado....the one that Timbaland Produced ( Nelly's Rad. She's from Vancouver Island and gives money to environmental causes)

a new song that goes:
"this is why, this is why, this is why i'm hot!"

actually the new tragically hip song "in view" is kinda growing on me, and is pretty awesome compared to a lot of the total shit I hear on the treadmill.
