wow, the detroit cobras - "cry on" (ronnie mack) from life, live and leaving is one of the best covers of all time.

I've had the week off work, and I've been obsessed with the following:

"I believe in you" - Neil Young
"Chris Mills is living the dream" - Chris Mills ("Oh I dreamed I was Richard Pryor)
"Bring It On" - Nick Cave
"No good here" - Tim Fite ('I've been busy kicking every can in New York City") ("Tap, tap tap, Tip that cognac back, back, back")
"Sold" - Joe Henry
"Wig 12" - Odd Nosdam
"Trouble Blues" - Sam Cooke
"Hickory Wind" - The Byrds
"Harnessed In Slums" - Archers of Loaf
"Wildflower and 'Full of Music As I Could Be' " - Hobart Smith ("it's called old-timey, see") ("...because I loved it, loved it")

Sparklehorse - It's A Wonderful Life (Dangermouse listed this in Spin as one of his top 10 most influential albums. Totally jogged my memory. What a great album.)
Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It.... The last track is a dance jam.

Wow, someone else found Chris Mills... I just saw him for the first time in Chicago last month. Listening to that same album.

Also the new Ryan Adams. Not feeling it yet.

give it time, just give it time...
i was so disilusioned with some of the stuff he's put out prior, but after a handful of listens, i find it beautifully authentic (something lacking with 'rock n' roll', etc...), (finally) unpretentious (lyrically and otherwise), singing about his hometown, etc... eventually, i really connected with it.
i don't really dig the norah jones "duet" though...
she's a talented young lady, but it doesn't work for me..

i remember chris mills back from the "chenoa" song. an old friend burnt me a mix that had that song on it, and i loved it. i think it has edith frost on backing vocals. great song, and that album is worth checking out if you like his recent stuff. i really like the new song, "chris mills is living the dream" -- it reminds me of randy newman.
