Seriously solid month, Ninja Gaiden, Fire Emblem, and Blazing Chrome were my top 3 but I enjoyed everything!

Also had been dieing to cover something from Contra III for yeeeears now but its just been way out of my comfort zone. Finally got a decent bass setup this year and my bass playing has gottin a lot better so decided to give it a go! My fingers were in absolute BITS after recording this.....so many takes, so little skin left...

oh yeah, I lent Pingo my Ibanez SM-9 Super Metal.  How do you like it?  I put a few mods into it; replaced the 4558s with burr brown "hi-fi" op amps, changed a couple resistors to get more volume out of it, changed a couple caps, and changed the silicon clipping diodes to LEDs, all to give it a flatter frequency responce and more volume.

Pingo, different kinds of diodes or mosfests in the clipping section all have their unique characteristics, in headroom, in tone, and in the actual clipping.  It depends how you wire them (to ground for "hard clipping" "distortion" or not-to-ground for "soft clipping" "overdrive"), and you can use different combinations for assymentrical clipping (which Boss has a patent on, so you will have to pay them royalties or go to jail).  I like to think of them by their amount of headroom from least to greatest; germanium diodes (1N34A, for example), silicon diodes (1N4148, for example), MOSFETs (2N7000, for example), and LEDs (any kind, differnet colors and makes actually sound different).  So, LEDs will sound the least compressed, or most dynamic, or loudest..... and Germanium, most compressed, lowest volume, etc.

There is no clipping component I can say is the best.  They're all different.  They're dependent on the circuit they are used in (which can also be modifed to suit the clippers you are using)....

Wow this is super helpful! I have shitty Marshall 100HGFX in the garage and been meaning to try out some circuit modification. Do you have any recommendations on what's a good place to start? I'm pretty confident at soldering so I'm happy to try anything really! Sounds like absolute shit as it stands :P

My GF was remarking on that, 'why do you want to go to Magfest so bad its just full of cosplayers, they're fucking everywhere in every Con ever'. Had to be like 'NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, THAT'S NOT WHAT THIS IS!!!'

I'm not a massive movie buff so I feel your pain, a lot of references to over my head too but I did obsess over some movies as a kid.

Big trouble in little China
Escape from new York/la
The thing
Rambo/Rocky movies
Halloween movies
Mortal Kombat
The shining
The crow
The Stand
The last action hero
Robin Hood:men in tights

Some of these I just happened to have on VHS not exactly the best movies but definitly worth a watch
