#1349990 Nsfe Collection

Posted by Anonymotron on 09 March 2017 - 05:03 AM

My last big update for a while to WiiGuy’s DropBox includes the new file for Dudes with Attitude, homebrews Dear Mario and Layla: The Iris Missions, and Famicom titles Cleopatra no Mahou, Deep Dungeon: Madou Genki, Deep Dungeon II: Yuushi no Monshou, Erika to Satoru no Yume Bouken, Famicom Tantei Club: Kieta Koukeisha, Ganbare Goemon Gaiden, Idol Hotline: Nakayama Miho no Tokimeki High School, Saint Seiya: Ougon Densetsu Kanketsu Hen, Square no Tom Sawyer, Sushiou no Ryuu, and the Radar Tailor-Made prototype soundtrack.  Most of these I tagged thanks to soundtracks on kuja45’s YouTube channel.  Also, to give credit where credit is due, I check VGMRips and have used their Famicom soundtracks for many of the games mentioned in previous posts.  Let me know if there are other good sources for Famicom soundtracks.

I have also, slowly over the last year, timed 400 Famicom/FDS NSFe files (most of the remaining licensed Japan-only titles).  I took a page from the Portable Music History playbook and, in the absence of known song names, labeled the tracks very simply (BGM 1, BGM 2, Jingle 1, Jingle 2, SFX 1, SFX 2, etc.).  I’ve uploaded them to WiiGuy’s DropBox, and will let him decide whether to include them in the public sets.

#1339894 Preparing an episode for Retro Game Audio, I could use some help!

Posted by Anonymotron on 13 December 2016 - 04:03 PM

Hi everyone, I’ve compiled the posts so far and have added a few more.  I can update this post if I’ve missed anything or if more comments are made.
Air Fortress has different “Ending / Staff Roll” music between NES & FC versions.
Castlevania & Akumajou Dracula were already covered by bucky.
Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse & Akumajou Densestu have different loop lengths on “Riddle.”
Circus Caper & Moeru! Oniisan were already mentioned by ShawnPhase.
Contra & Gryzor were already suggested by Ken Oh.
Dragon Power & Dragon Ball were already mentioned by MegaMatt.
Ice Hockey has different in-game BGM between the NES & FDS versions.
Kid Icarus: Angel Land Story & Hikari Shinwa: Palutena no Kagami have different “Ending / Staff Roll” music.
Kid Klown in Night Mayor World & Mickey Mouse III: Yume Fuusen are another well-known example of Kemco games where the rights were different in JP versus the US (see Superman below).
Metroid (NES/FDS) was already mentioned by ErichWK.
Nintendo World Cup & Nekketsu Koukou Dodgeball-bu: Soccer-hen is one of two pairs of soccer games that share many similar themes but have a lot of differences.
Parodius Da! - Shinwa kara Owari E (FC) & Parodius (PAL) have different “Staff Roll” themes.
Phantom Fighter & Reigen Doushi have totally different “Staff Roll” music.
Rush ’n Attack & Green Beret mostly have the same music, but in Green Beret the “Staff Roll” loops and there is an unknown/unused track.
Rygar & Argos no Senshi: Hachamecha Daishingeki were already mentioned by Ken Oh.
S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team & Final Mission were already discussed by ShawnPhase and MegaMatt.
Shatterhand & Tokkyuu Shirei Solbrain were already suggested by Robby V.
Superman (NES/FC) and Indora no Hikari are detailed in my previous post.
Super Mario Bros. 2 & Yume KouJou: Doki Doki Panic were already covered by bucky, MegaMatt, and mooniniteG.
Tecmo Cup Soccer Game & Captain Tsubasa: See the comments for Nintendo World Cup above.
Tecmo World Wrestling & Gekitou Pro Wrestling!! Toukon Densetsu have different “Opening” & “2 Player Match” music.
Werewolf: The Last Warrior & Choujinrou Senki Warwolf were already covered by bucky.
Yo! Noid & Kamen no Ninja: Hanamaru were already mentioned by ShawnPhase.
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link & The Legend of Zelda 2: Link no Bouken were already brought up by juef.

Thanks for thinking of me, Jace and Bucky.  One great example I thought of is the Famicom version of Superman, developed by Kemco, that has renditions of the John Williams' score from the 1978 movie.  Kemco must not have had the rights to that music in the U.S., so they swapped out some tunes from Indora no Hikari (Famicom-only) and released a game with a different (and blander IMHO) soundtrack in North America.

My latest upload for WiiGuy (mostly SFX tagged files) includes the new rips for American Gladiators, Metal Mech: Man & Machine, and Wayne's World plus brand new titles Grand Master (Famicom), MTV Remote Control, and Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego?  I'll look at the new files when I have a chance, so keep them coming!

I've updated the Gun Nac files, along with a few others.  I didn't hear much of a difference between the JP and US Gun Nac music, unless I'm missing something.

I updated the spreadsheet to reflect this information.  I looked at the Moon Ranger playthrough and it appears the NSF is missing a song: the BGM for the vehicle (moon rover?) stages.  I have a bunch of updates that I need to make to the FC/FDS page that I will get to when I have time.  In the meantime, MrNorbert1994, if you want access to edit the spreadsheet on Google Drive you can PM Doommaster, WiiGuy, or me your e-mail (and/or Google login).

Thanks for the updates, and for your NSFe files, MrNorbert1994, much appreciated.  Karmic at nesdev has also ripped some new NSFs, including one I've eagerly awaited: Adventures of Tom Sawyer.  I've included that one, plus the other NES updates, FC games (including the awesome Cosmo Police Galivan and Just Breed), and PAL games in the latest batch uploaded to WiiGuy's DropBox.  I'm also working on moving the PAL games on the NSFe Master List to their own sheet since there are many games that have separate NSFs from their NTSC or FC/FDS counterparts.

I have uploaded a few new files to Wiiguy's DropBox, including all the files he had to be time-stamped.  The new batch includes Rampart (Tengen/Jaleco), Challenge of the Dragon (Color Dreams), and Operation Secret Storm to continue the North American list, plus some Mega Man covers/remixes from RushJet1 and TSSF.

Welcome, MrNorbert1994, and thanks for the NSF archive.  I noticed that it has the US version of Rampart, which was previously unripped as far as I knew.  Did you do the rip?  I'll work on timing/tagging it.  The NSFe spreadsheet linked to on page 1 of this thread shows all the NSFs with issues, but some of the main titles that could use re-rips include Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Legends of the Diamond: The Baseball Championship Game, M.U.S.C.L.E., The Mutant Virus: Crisis in a Computer World, Racket Attack, and Tecmo Baseball.  Also, as has been noted before, Tecmo Super Bowl is missing some jingles.

Happy 30th Anniversary, Nintendo Entertainment System!  Many of you, I suspect, were too young to witness the release of the NES in the mid 80s and approach the console as retro enthusiasts.  For me, however, the NES arrived at precisely the right time to capture my imagination in elementary school.  I was in deep: I subscribed to Nintendo Power magazine, I enjoyed playing games on weekend mornings in my Nintendo sweatpants, and I begged my parents to buy the Nintendo Cereal System (only once...).

Anyway, enough of how big a dork I am...I mean was...my final major update for the North American games contains Desert Commander, Dragon Power, F-117A Stealth Fighter, F-15 Strike Eagle, Rally Bike, and Ring King.  As I’ve said before, I’ll help time any JP titles that people are able to tag or more American titles if the files are either newly ripped or corrected.  Until then, I’ve enjoyed working with this community of NES enthusiasts on an attempt to create a music archive to rival SNESmusic.org, Project 2612, and the High Voltage SID Collection.

No problem, Wiiguy.  I hear you about being busy; I unfortunately have less and less time for this project.  In addition to the Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu, Sesame Street ABC & 123, and Super-Pinball files you needed stamped, I have uploaded some more.  The new batch includes Dungeon Magic: Sword of the Elements, Genghis Khan, KlashBall, NFL, Pro Sport Hockey, Puzznic, Rock 'n' Ball, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Shingen the Ruler, and Top Players Tennis.  I will make one more update this Fall that should cover most of the remaining NTSC files (that have NSFs, that is).  After that point I will be able to check the "NSFe's to be Time Stamped" folder every once in a while to add time stamps if needed.

I do have some irons in the fire, as I hope to get through the rest of the North American list this summer.  After that point I’m going to have to curtail my NSFe involvement, although I’ll still be able to add track times here and there.  Speaking of which, I’ll add track times to After Burner and the Startropics fix.  I hope Revenant plans to rip more nsfs.  By the way, Jace, where did this rip come from: "Been enjoying the newly released War On Wheels nsf today! (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/431 ... wheels.nsf)" (from Complete NSF collection page 30)?

Hi gents, I realize this thread has been quiet lately, but I do have some more updates I sent over to WiiGuy’s DropBox.  The latest update includes Bandit Kings of Ancient China, Captain Comic: The Adventure, Defenders of Dynatron City, Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball, Galactic Crusader, Hatris, Image Fight, L’Empereur, Little League Baseball: Championship Series, and Mappy-Land.  For good measure, I used JohnX895’s Longplay and the game’s extensive end credits to tag an NSFe for the excellent Tetrastar: The Fighter (FC) soundtrack.  While I have neither the time nor the inclination to sift through the NSFs for the mountain of untranslated Famicom titles, I made an exception for Metal Slader Glory, a soundtrack I think deserves an NSFe.  I used MrNorbert1994’s playthrough, the OST CD track list, and this Wiki to create the tags.
