That's pretty close minded. I mean, you don't have to like videogames at all, but saying they didn't stand a chance leads me to believe that you devote your life to music and music only. Music has always been the most important part of my life, but it's like a soundtrack for me. I've been playing videogames since I was 5, then I skateboarded almost everyday for 5 years, and now I play a lot of videogames again. But through it all I listen to at least an hours worth of music per day, given the chance.

The Bossies are definitely more diverse then most other groups of people I am aware, more intelligent and for the most part seem to have a better education then other boards I have seen, especially for how young some of them are. I love the Minibosses and would consider myself a bossie as well, even though I don't post much on that board.

I agree with Colin, Video Games are just another part of everyday life, as humans become more technically advanced we learn to multitask better and put more things into our day. Back in the day, all we could do is work go home make dinner and hangout with family, then books came along to provide entertainment, then the radio, then TV, then videogames and internet. We are progressing and that's cool if you don't like it or don't get it, but this isn't a fad, it's not going to go away, soon something else is going to come along in addition to video games and the internet and there will be people saying "oh, well all I am into is VG and my girlfriend, why do I need something else" and that will be cool too, as they are left behind and we keep progressing.

I am sure humans use more of their brain (on average) then they did 100 years ago, this is only a guess and I could be wrong in making that assumption. Gaming helps youth with problem solving skills, hand eye coordination, and other things that help them progress better then by reading, not saying reading isn't important but I hope you know what I mean.

wow this thread has taken a weird turn.

i was a videogame junkie during the first wave (asteroids, pacman, tempest, defender, atari2600s, etc.) then i started to play guitar & videogames were not as interesting to me. i haven't really played since junior high. but yeah, i understand HFE....mostly i have a hard time connecting with 'sports heads' and i guess the same could be said about gamers (unless they are heavily into music or old videogames & then we've got some common ground).

I can't even play the Otto or Gem Master that came with my computer so I totally know what you mean. I liked this game at Eatza Pizza where you hold a gun in your hand and blow people's heads off. They replaced it with a target shooting game.

I am all for VG as long as people still read and write, hang with other people, etc. All of these skills will continue to be important, and the more of your brain you use, the more of your brain you use (as a science-oriented music teacher said at my house the other night). I think it's important that you respect the interests of other people even if you can't figure out how VG, for example, would fit into your own life. (And I'm not saying anyone here doesn't respect them, despite our sometime bafflement by them.) And music was a mostly solitary pleasure for me till a few years ago, and I thank some of y'all for helping change that.

On the other hand, I think it's fair:

A) for a random Minibossie to wonder, until informed, how someone else might have become a frequent Shizz reader/poster

B) for a non-VG Shizzite to assume he might not have a lot in common with the majority of Minibossies

eh?

OMG, I so have to go to work now.

I understand your critisism....
I would choose frisbee, btw.

I opened my mind, I exposed myself (he he)....It just left me cold....

I've exposed myself to as many things as possible....you like what you like...

Music, at least the music I enjoy, expresses a wide range of emotions...mostly sad, I like sad.

Video games seem angry & agressive......I rarely feel that way....

It's human.... I like that..... I like the humanity in things..... I like emotion....

So, just because I don't like video games or heavy mteal doesn't mean I'm closed minded...

I don't like Taco Bell, it sucks, every now and then I try it again, it still sucks......

How many times must I expose myself to something I don't like to not be considered closed minded?

We all think we are right, otherwise we'd not be operating the way we do...

This 'human' thing, maybe even an 'old-fashioned' thing, runs through my life in many areas...

I wouldn't say that I'm a Luddite by any means....I enjoy the internet, the cd burner, the electric butt plug, the dvd player, I don't have an ipod, but if someone bought one for me I would be very happy....but, I prefer old school cartoons/claymation to the new stuff, old dumpy houses to new ones, I hate the way new stuff looks......I hate electronic music, though I can deal with some sampling...I like 8mm film, reel to reels, slides....old records, old music....old people.......and the most beautiful thing I've ever seen is the way my gal looks first thing in the morning, no make-up, hair messy, no bra, stinky breath......
I just like real human stuff....
I don't even like movies with special effects.....I just like a good little story

I realize I'm in the minority here, and that's fine....

But, enough about me......seriously....blah blah blah, I this, me that......fuck n A.......

Perhaps I'm just getting to the age where I'm sentimental about old stuff.....

Just the opposite… I have a lot of sentimentality for older things … Music of my youth music from before my time etc… I have been enjoying a lot of older country lately. It’s kind of funny because I introduced it to myself through a very modern way (satellite radio). That said I also think that it is important to embrace what is happening now.

I am getting into older stuff too, and becoming more sentimental about it.

I really dig the New Loretta Lynn which has opened my mind up to get into other older stuff.
I was raised on Ernest Tubbs and Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline though when I was a kid, so
alot of it isn't that new to me but I appreciate it more now I guess.

As much as I do have sentimentality (if that's a word) for older stuff I love the new stuff too.
I love my gameboy and play it whenever I have free time (which isn't THAT oftern but I squeeze it in)
Although, I don't have a tv and only untill a week ago, I hadn't had a microwave oven for the last couple of years.

HFE, if you don't like something, you don't like it. That's fine, but what you said was this:

I didn't even touch an Atari until I was 13....I had already got way into music by then....

Video games didn't stand a chance....

By that I took it that you had already devoted so much of your life to music that you didn't have time for anything else. Maybe I'm wrong about making that assumption, but so far the only thing I know you are interested is music, and maybe Sparks. I know all too well how easy it is to go gung ho into something and reject other things (what was I doing on homecoming night? skateboarding in the school parking lot waiting for my cousin).

As for angry and aggressive videogames, try playing Animal Crossing. The most angry part of that game is when you go fishing and you catch a boot instead of a Red Snapper.

This is a stupid argument, as we both keep stating that we can enjoy whatever we want, and it won't bother anyone else. But, you seem to be stuck in a few niches without fully exploring the field.
