Alternative perspective on The Gates, from a friend who actually got to walk among them:

finally saw the gates on saturday, they were really fascinating and lovely. it was so much more a people-watching thing than even i had thought; the place was jammed and people were talking animatedly with each other, total strangers. the orangey colors were a streak of energy through the snow-covered park and everybody seemed in a very happy mood. it really felt like a love letter to the city.

I guess this is one of those pieces you either get or you don't, and we don't.

I don't know if this is even the same thing as the stuff on that page weener posted, but I got this shot at Artscape 2003 in Baltimore:

But you'd think someone with a creative and artistic mind would realize the huge waste of money that is

artists think with the right side of the brain so things like logic fly out the window,

The color orange reminding me
of "a construction site" could very well be one of his many
symbolic intentions

and no, as he stated on 60 minutes it doesn't mean anything, no message, no symbolism, just art for arts sake

All the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

well, in that case,
i'd like to go back to my original statement:

in my opinion, that 'art' is very ugly
