The features on this thing are incredible, but I'm not so sure about a 2-year minimum contract, let alone the thing may cost well over $500. It seriously does just about everything. The keynotes are amazing.
Thoughts??

But yes, that phone does look pretty sweet.
If they catch on, I may get one, but that's a ways down the road.

As a general rule, I say no to first generation hardware. Overpriced and not market tested/proven. Remember the battery life controversy from the iPods several years ago?

Yeah, I've been having a discussion with a coworker about it already. I will probably end up waiting like I usually do and then not getting it. I still don't have an iPod although I have wanted one since they came out. Not about money, just timing and price. Now there are so many of them, I can pick one that fits me just right.
That is a good rule though.

Yeah, I'm usually in that camp, too.
The thing, though, is that a lot of cell phones seem to not even do being a cell phone very well, and it sounds like Jobs/Apple are gonna try to tackle that as much as try to cram in being an ipod, pda, mobile computer, whatever. Having read that Time article about how the iPhone came into develop, and knowing that Apple learned from its failures like the Newton, all of the other stuff, beyond being a cell phone, sounds pretty sweet.
Also, I think we're pretty much going to be in the midst of the Swiss Army cellphone days, if only because any companies lagging behind are going to try to catch up to the iPhone.
The price, along with the Cingular exclusivity, is pretty daunting. Within the first couple of years, though, it looks like there are plans to have other (possibly cheaper) models in place, in addition to one that was shown. Also, as much as Jobs likes Cingular, I think after the first year or two, Apple will find a way, or there will be reason to, to have unlocked versions of the phone that can be used outside of Cingular.
It's all moot as the real cool people with go so hardcore retro as to return to using homing pigeons to send messages, and listening to records played by its beak when it's not flapping around.

-trunkspaceAll the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.
