Are we confirmed to be getting this refund this year? I heard about it on NPR, but I don't know whats become of it.

And I will probably put half of it to make an overpayment on one of my many debts, and piss away the other half on cds, beer and video games, and all the good stuff that keeps me antisocial.

it's probably 90% confirmed... as long as congress passes it which i'm sure they will. i heard that this morning on the npr. i also heard it should be sent out sometime in june or july. seems like a long time to wait to 'jumpstart' something when it's all ready on life-support.

oh and i will probably throw my money at student loans. i'm not gonna help jump jack except the downsizing of my debt.

the responsible part of me says to pay it on my CC bills. the other 98% says to combine it with matt's refund and buy a better TV.

I work for an accounting firm and we got a press release about this yesterday. It's not tied in to our return, rather it'll be a separate rebate check they will be cut around May or so. That's what I'm told anyway.

shamefull self promotion

All the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

i've heard that this is only going to apply to people/households whose income is below a certain amount.

anyone know anything more about this?
i've tried finding info via google, but numbers make me dizzy and i keep passing out.

Yes, the cut-off is $75k for single taxpayers and $150k for married taxpayers. Basically they want it to go to the middle classes.

IIRC - it's phased out somewhere in the $80k salary for an individual, somewhere near twice that for married couples. maybe a few shizzies who meet that threshold, but very few. :-)

plus, the numbers I've heard have been more along the lines of $300-600 rebate for most individuals, couples higher, and even more if you've got kids.

if it actually comes through... I'll be weighing the benefits of auto maintenence vs another guitar amp. ahhh.

between my car and student loans, i'm about $30k in the crapper, so yeah, i should probably put it towards those...

but between not having a surround sound system for my TV in my new apartment and not having Rock Band in my apartment, i should probably put it towards one of those...

The term "nanny state" has been bandied about a lot lately by conservatives opposed to the talk about universal health care. Isn't the government sending free, unearned money in the mail to everyone because they don't earn enough to blow on crap to keep the economy moving the epitome of a despised "nanny state?" Why not just raise the minimum wage or something?

Because by doing this, they know that people will spend their money on stuff like XBoxes and golf clubs.

Like a nanny state where the nanny is cool and lets you drink beer.
