Cincinnati's Channel 9 called me with some poll questions about the $800. They asked questions like "Can Bush fix the economy?" and "What will you spend the $800 on?" There was a part where we could leave comments. I said, "I hope I wasn't too much of an outlier; I don't want to screw up your kurtosis." I can't wait to see if they're going to use my comment on the news.

The term "nanny state" has been bandied about a lot lately by conservatives opposed to the talk about universal health care. Isn't the government sending free, unearned money in the mail to everyone because they don't earn enough to blow on crap to keep the economy moving the epitome of a despised "nanny state?" Why not just raise the minimum wage or something?

Because by doing this, they know that people will spend their money on stuff like XBoxes and golf clubs.

Like a nanny state where the nanny is cool and lets you drink beer.

I heard a story on NPR about this yesterday, and apparently if you spend the money on things that come from outside America, such as most clothing and a lot of food, not to mention most electronics, most of the money goes right outside the US economy again. The remainder of the money goes into the pockets of whatever huge corporation (Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Costco) you are shopping at. My boyfriend and I talked about cashing our checks, putting the money in a drawer, and taking it out whenever we are going to eat at a locally owned restaurant, such as Pizza Heaven, Green, Carly's, Gourmet House of Hong Kong, That's a Wrap...just to guarantee that the money actually does a tiny amount to stimulate our local economy.

Well, I guess at least hookers would keep the money local. The blow would export most of my dollars to Colombia.

Maybe I'll just go to locally owned restaurants as well.

They also said that they had yet to reach agreement on extending the Bush administration’s terrorism surveillance program, which Republican leaders have set as a condition for allowing the stimulus bill to move ahead.

This is why our system fucking blows. "Yes, we will help the poeple, if at the same time we can fuck over the people."

so bush and lawmakers are going to give everyone a tax rebate averaging $800 for 'stimulation'

what are you going to do with your mad cash?????

I'll end up spending it on the increase in the property tax and home insurance.

Hrmm, this is the first I've heard of this. I imagine I'll spend it on something that will be useful to me but also not decrease in value, such as putting it towards an older PRS.

What I would like to spend it on:
Traveling
Airbrush setup
Fancy sewing machine
Starting my sleeve

What I will wind up doing because I am a responsible tool:
Saving it

Being an adult sucks.
