started watching two "Sons of -" shows:

Sons of Anarchy - i liked the first season but the second season rape story line is pissing me off to no end.

Sons of Tucson - !! like !! it's really funny! and there are a few AZ jokes thrown in here and there for good measure, i find myself laughing out loud often. it kind of reminds me of Malcolm in the Middle a little bit. I would recommend checking it. good writing and the lead actor is pretty funny.

that's good to know! i really hope so. i hate bullshit story lines involving rape that are not realistic or even accurate.

so many wrongs with that story line! she's such a badass, not afraid to kill the baby mama of her first grandchild but she can't kill the guys that gang raped her? She gets religious!!??!? i saw it coming but come on! she can't tell SAMCRO because they'd escalate the war, even though they are already blowing up white power meth labs and fighting skinheads in the streets??!?!? so not consistent. i know it's the "plot" but it's not done well in my opinion, lots of holes.

not one of the characters has said the word "rape" yet and i'm like 4 episodes in!!!!!

i stopped watching The Soppranos because of the same bullshit story lines that in reality are very very very harmful messages - that women/girls have to carry the burden of sexual violence alone, they can't tell anyone, they can't get revenge (whether that be through the law or through their own system), they HAVE to forgive their rapist, they can't talk about it or involve their families or communities in their healing process, and the rapist(s) always get away with no repercussions for their crimes. such bullshit.

i know every one is different and reacts differently to acts of sexual violence against them but to keep showing characters who remain silent about their rape is disheartening and oppressive.

like our rape-culture needs to see more images of women getting raped and not doing anything about it.

when i was sexually assaulted all i thought about was finding the guy and ripping his face off. i still think about it. i'm pretty sure if i ever got the chance to or had a motorcycle gang i could call up for revenge i would be all up on it. but my life is not written by a bunch of male screenwriters who have no idea how women deal with sexual violence.

I TOTALLY agree. Also contradictory of her character was how Gemma was about the little girl that got raped. She said she can't be silent and carry it alone. Then she goes and does the same thing. Sutter got it wrong. So wrong.

Yet he created a character later in the season of a woman that owns her sexuality w/ no apoligies and no ones seems to mess w/ her. Lyla. Sutter must have a soft spot for sex workers/porn star/strippers.

and each time the show has shown rape it has been by a stranger/violent. Rape isn't like that all the time. Sometimes you know the person. Sometimes they take advantage of you when you can't fight back, or fight back hard enough.

yeah he def loves sex workers, which is fine, they should be portrayed as real people because they are.

i'll watch it til the end of this season and if there's any good developments in that story line (as you noted) i'll probably watch the 3rd season. jax is hot but i wish they'd hire a new costume person for him! baggy pants? white sneakers? dude should be wearing tight jeans and mc boots and be smoking hot. right now i give his face an 8 and his costume a 3

We watched Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. My mom hasn't watched any of those movies. She thought it was cute. She agreed w/ me that prince caspian is a hottie. (I call him prince crispy - if you haven't seen Ben Barnes in dorian gray - he is sooooo creepy good in that)

I love fantasy movies. I am still bummed that the golden compass didn't do better in the theaters. I really wanted more of those movies. More Daniel Craig please! Can't wait for Cowboys & Aliens!!!
