Seems like an acceptable solution to me, really.

I respect your opinion and all, but you assume the cams are about safety, where it really is about revenue generation. And do you really know for sure, those cams aren't on all the time and recording more than they are supposed to? Seriously.

i don't support the cameras. I think they are revenue generators and dangerous on the freeways which are already dangerous enough. Unless you are going to put them every mile then they are ineffective at curbing speeding and only effective at getting money and causing accidents.
i actually dont really speed, i usually go under 9 miles over the limit. and i've never had a speeding ticket yet in my life, knock on wood.
anyone know if the cameras on the 101 still work? last time i drove on the north loop area, those were no longer on but were still up.

sometimes these cameras are more dangerous than "helpful" - Like now on the 51 which i take everyday to and from work, during rush hour traffic is flowing relatively smoothly on the freeway until they hit the photo enforcement zone and boom - everyone hard brakes, and traffic slows down way too fast and very dangerously.

they all still work and are still issuing tickets. "i usually go under 9 miles over the limit" I like this wording. so basically you go no more than 9 miles over...

Then, IMHO, you post a cop at that intersection, if it is really bad. Cameras are not police officers.

they are designed to generate revenue. i believe the governor has said so - that is their primary goal. evidently they know people don't care and are going to speed/run red lights no matter what. so why not make some $$ from it.
i'm guessing a camera is about 1/10th as expensive as a cop to maintain. that's a wild estimate. but i'm saying that's why they don't just post a cop at that intersection. and by "that intersection", i mean every intersection in phoenix. because seriously, none of you fucking people know how to drive.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

I didn't notice till lastnight when I got flashed going 5 miles over the speed limit on the 51, and then on cross streets near my house, and then again this morning going up the I-17 to work.

"but that would be crazy!!!" you say
the proof is in the pudding i say

it cost the court more to find you to server you the ticket in person (the only way it will hold in court) then what the fine is. so yeah, its more of a scare tactic.....
ps- there are tons of ways to fight these tickets. but if a cop pulls you over and you get a ticket, your fucked....

And if you do pay the ticket, only 50-60% goes to the state, the rest goes to Redflex, the Aussie based company that owns the cameras and vans and is making a fortune on people who see the ticket in the mail and think they have to pay it. So even our speeding is outsourced.
