in my long and beautiful history of karaoke tom-foolery, i've seen the places get pretty hip tot hese sort of schemes pretty qick. And if the night is full of singers, it get pretty diluted by the other singers. Not enough impact. Kinda like putting the same song in a jukebox 20 times, but it plays them randomly and not all in a row. (which is fucking hilarious, by the way!! See: 'The Middle' by Jimmy Eat World at Jugheads about 7 times in a row before they turned the machine off)

Had a brainstorm with JackieO at the salon7 party re: this.

I think that it should be at places that already are having KO that night.

And, that there would be a uniform of sorts to identify those participating: Ties and Skirts.

Thirdly, everyone participating would come prepared to do songs from one artist all night. For instance, I may do 5 or more Doors songs or something.

Is there a Janice Joplin in the house? Buddy Holly? Diana Ross? Waylon Jennings?

You get the picture.

T.S.G.K. (Ties & Skirts Guerilla Karaoke!)

i'd really like to wear a turtleneck with a corduroy jacket. this would look ridiculous with a tie. so perhaps i'll just wear a skirt.

if you still can't identify me, i'll be the guy singing nothing but prince songs.

oh man i thought you were going to only do Robert Goulet covers with your turtleneck/corduroy jacket ensemble!

But a guy wearing that doing Prince all night is badass.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

one good thing we can do is put in songs with different names on them, so they karaoke guy/gal doesn't pass them up because the last time you sang, you were a total drunken fool. When you grab the mic again, it'll be too late to tell you that you are too much of a dickweed* to sing again.

* or maybe that you look too good in a turtleneck and tie and jacket.

his wikipedia page says nothing about being wasted all the time. either it wasn't big news because everybody, even pregnant women, drank and smoked excessively back in the 60's, or he was so good at acting sober that nobody could tell how fucked up he was.

he's dead now, by the way.

cant we just pretend that the real Robert Goulet was exactly like the one played by Will Ferrell on SNL?
