bad news, my finger is starting to go numb again.

a good friend told me last nite that i was too handsome to understand how he feels.

and an old friend that ive taken for granted at times brought a very lovely gift of diapers and wipes
(thank you so much, im grateful and guilty and sorry)

i like this thread. in my personal opinion without shame, im more interested in theses types of threads.
but come now again and again, this is no surprise.

im a fan of prince, but man that guy is not that nice not to mention hes a loon.
i dont want people to like my band because im a nice guy, id rather them like
my band because they enjoy the music. thats the problem with you people.

donald, im not being serious. im too narcissistic to deny anyone paying attention
to what im involved in. im just being my usual antagonistic self. im sensitive you see,
and a few things made me feel sensitive. im not serious im just that 'one guy'
no hard feelings to you donald, but some hard feelings to some others.

Years ago when my friend Gilbert Garcia moved to Phoenix and became New Times Music Editor he was surprised by how diverse a music scene there is in Phoenix. (This was about 2000 or so). I don't think things have changed a whole lot, there is plenty of Americana, plenty of hardcore, punk, experimental, indie synth stuff, singer songwriters, and pop bands. Usually when people say things suck here, I get the idea that mostly they are jealous THEIR band is not getting a lot of attention.

It is what it is here; some bands have become famous and gotten a lot of attention. Jimmy Eat World, Dear and the Headlights, the freakin' Gin Blossoms, Meat Puppets, & more. But the vast majority of bands linger in Phoenix clubs, maybe they can't tour, maybe they don't have the talent, maybe they don't have the right manager. Same stuff happens in other towns.

You make "the scene" what you want. Don't sit and complain about it, DO something about it. Phoenix and the "scene" owe you nothing, there are no guarantees for some amazing "scene". The Shizz has always been in my experience pretty open to whatever little band I have going at the moment & I've never been on the frontpage, nor have I asked. I'm grateful for this little community of music people & have made some friends through it & have enjoyed a lot of really terrific music here. What more can you ask for "in the grand scheme"?

Plus I sorta met my fiance' via the Shizz, so I mean, that's awesome.
