racist innuendos.

But really, where's the best cup of joe according to you? Circle K? Cartel? That place around the corner from Modified? Fair Trade? Lux?

I'm curious too.

Best cup in town, in my experience: I buy my green beans (usually something African or even Yemeni for my tastes) from Sweet Maria's in Oakland, roast them myself. Use the beans within a week, grind fresh in the morning with a burr grinder and brew in a little french press. Keep hot in a thermos. Totally worth the trouble.

I like strong & black.

Royal Coffee (at the downtown market) is damn good. Cartel & Lux are both way above average. Some of the Fair Trade varieties are quite good (Indonesian sourced, usually).

I'll keep thinking on it.

I usually only get the mocha at LUX, but the other day I had the coffee and was stoked, it was pretty good.
Cartel gives me heart palpitations...so that is a good thing right?
but I am curious to some answers from more coffee wised vets here...unlimited Coffee and Grinders by my house have decent to passable coffee...so i desire answers.

I go for Lola's on Roosevelt and 3rd ave. Extra bonus is the fresh baked goods from Sweet Pea Bakery : ) We buy our beans from Randy at Xanadu for home brew.

I would consider myself something of an expert on this topic, because a day doesn't go by in my life where I'm not trying to find the best cup of coffee to start my day off. First off, I'm a coffee fanatic. I drink coffee for breakfast, lunch, and sometimes when I'm working long hours at night on the computer. Caffiene has no effect on me, for some reason. I'm hoping that my massive consumption of coffee doesn't end up killing me over the next remaining years, but I digress...

I have found that the best cups of coffee, at least within the Downtown Phoenix area, come from the following spots:

Unlimited Coffee
http://www.unlimitedcoffee.com/
741 East Glendale Avenue
Phoenix, AZ 85020

Luci's Healthy Marketplace
1590 East Bethany Home Road
Phoenix, AZ 85014

Other good places would definitely include Coffee Plantation and (yes, I said it) Circle K, but Unlimited Coffee & Luci's are definitely my favs. I haven't gotten into the whole Dutch Brothers thing because in my opinion, their prices are just too fucking outrageous.

Also, you will NEVER catch me in a Starbucks. Worst coffee/coffee house on the planet.

PS. This thread really makes me miss Willow House. :(

The end.

beans from Randy at Xanadu for home brew.

This. I am currently out and using some TJ's beans but I am unhappy.

Randy, can you hear me? I need you!

Lola's would be second, lux 3rd, circle k last, Starbucks not considered, Cartel somewhere near Lola's and Lux, Willow House house beans with cinnamon I crave regularly.

Seriously, can we all plan a unison vomit party at Hob Nobs?

Lucys Healthy Market place is a great place, I try to support it as much as possible, the omlets are tasty and the PBJ's, but the regular coffee is gross...the fancy drinks are ok. And there is mos def a difference depending on who is working.

Unlimited...I have never had the regular coffee but the lattes are ok and the mochas are above average, the frozen drinks are milk shakes. I have been scared to get the coffee based on these ventures, but they do have .50 cubs of cofee....

Both cool places, but I want them to improve there coffee to some next level shit.

I like Royal Coffee (at the Public Market on 1st/Pierce) the best.
A close second is Copper Star Coffee (7th Ave/Campbell). They have a drive-thru.
The best drive-thru and 24-hour-on-the-weekend coffee is Xtreme Bean in Tempe (McClintock/Southern).
