man, i can just not take seriously
anyone who says 'rock is dead'.
that's fucking hilarious.

define what would make a band
'relevant', and i'll see if i can name
some bands for you.

people have been saying this
and other same ol shit forever.

Ok, I'm back--

Dear Mr. Hands,

How about this-- I'd rather you go on with your life believing there is nothing good worth listening to. have fun!

Lets say relevant means inspiring the same feelings you had when you were 10-12 years old as just cool kick ass music and as you got older it still reflected your feelings for a long time but for other reasons than just kick ass as it reflected youre ever expanding thoughts about the world. What rock music does that now?

By the way XOXOXO is a symptom of what wrong. Save that for the emo James Taylor with marshall stacks crowd.

so that definition make it
completely subjective,
rendering this conversation
useless on a general scale,
but if you want to know what
i would consider some 'relevant'
'rock' bands today...

the fucking champs
the paper chase
oxes
ween
fugazi
queens of the stone age
millionaire
autolux
repellent

plus lots others.

not to mention a slew
of local bands that i
will avoid mentioning
so as not to make anyone
blush.

sounds like you either just can't find any
music you like or you can't get inspired anymore,
if you agree with that article. either way = sad.

Richard was very nice to wave to me from his car this morning instead of trying to hit me with it.

Is Rock dead? No. There are plenty of people who are still into Rock... all the fans of Staind, Linkin Park, Default, Puddle of Mudd...

So, okay, this isn't the kind of Rock YOU like, Manos. Hell, probably NOBODY on this board likes that stuff. But somebody's buying it, so Rock's not dead.

Is there a saddening lack of originality in popular music? Are we having a hard time finding things we like on the radio and on TV. Well, yeah. I think that's why most of us got into independent music in the first place.

So, the real question is, "Is there good music left?" Of course! You may have to search high and low, but it's around.

Maybe another question is, "Is rebellion, nonconformists outside of the mainstream, and youth culture still a viable threat?" Hmm... I'm 25, I don't know if I qualify as "youth" anymore, but.... yeah, all that stuff could still be a threat to the status quo. But I don't know if that's really OUR fight anymore, we'll have to wait and see what the young'uns are capable of.

Man, while you're looking for good music, see if you can dig up A SENSE OF HUMOR.

Hey hey hey!
Are you responsible for bloodying this mystery poster's hands? He/She really seems to have it in for you.
I can post the most innocuous thing, and I get laid into like I'm a nail dodging the hammer.

Of course theirs good music out there. But what rock music nowadays appeals to these scenarios
1 - It can make a 10 year old jump around like mad
2 - It critiques our culture/society as it tries to reshape it for better and worse
3- Its ingrained with a healthy streak of piss off/rock the boat attitude that makes the the sedate members of the world cringe

When rock n roll first started it did at least 1 and 3. Then in the 60's it added 2. Both punk and metal kept up in the 70's and 80's at least 2 outta the three with punk leaning toward the third alot of the time. . Now most rock barely hits 1 ,let alone 2.

wow, sounds like a bloody political career in the works. I've found that for as much as I THINK I know about music and and the state that it is currently in, I'll meet someone that is leaps ahead of me as far as new music and new bands. These are the times that I get to be exposed and introduced to these new bands(to me rather) that spark those feelings of old and really make me believe that good "rock" is out there flowing like an ustoppable river waiting to sweep us all away. I think that key may be to search around and stay optomistic about these things. Also, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THE RADIO.. there may be a great country-pop revolution going on but I'll never fucking know about it.... opinions were like kittens I was givin em away...

hmm, i don't know, why don't
you tell me, considering you're
the whiney emo defeatist.

here, you want some rock lyrics?
how about why don't you stop
crying anonymously on a message
board and do something about a
situation that you feel sucks?
or just shut the hell up.
