All the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

the whigs do a great cover of "dark end of the street" on on of their singles -- "now you know" (from gentlemen). Somewhat timely considering Wilson Pickett's recent death. fyi - the sound at the very beginning of that album, gentlemen, is a recording of cars going over a well-known bridge over the ohio river, designed by the same fellow who designed th brooklyn bridge. the suspension bridge that spans the ohio has a grated roadway, transparent, and when you drive over it (or motor under it) you can see through it. it used to amaze me when I was younger, growing up in Cincinnati. There's a ton of Whigs lore through the Cincinnati music community, complete with Greg Dulli's face off with an enraged Meatloaf, who ran after the then-Dulli who stole his Vodka out of the dressing room.

a shitload of classical music, the obvious composers

and then some of the more modern stuff like bernard herrmann
the soundtrack to vertigo is my favorite

& the sdtrk to taxi driver is probably a close 2nd
