The Anniversary - Designing a Nervous Breakdown
The Get Up Kids - Something to Write Home About

Dude, I have been yearning to listen to StWHA lately. And The Anniversary are awesome. They made going to a Dashboard Confessional concert half worthwhile!

I found both Scratch Acid LPs on Rabid Cat records (pre-Touch and Go).

I found the Universal Order of Armageddon cd used, but it skips. :(

I also bought a bunch on Foetus on vinyl.

Now I need to sit down with the USB turntable I bought like 6 months ago and, you know, figure out how to use it to make mp3s.

I really like Designing A Nervous Breakdown, but their second album was awful. StWHA is MUCH more sappy than I remembered. I almost feel embarrassed listening to it.

Art Bears - Art Box (short lived but brilliant super-group, of sorts - featuring the ear-catching vocals of Dagmar Krause, the guitar trickery of Fred Frith, and the lyrical drumming of Chris Cutler - as arty as the band name!)

News From Babel - all albums (some members of Henry Cow, Art Bears, plus Robert Wyatt sometimes! - an extension of the Art Bears asthetic - equally brilliant!)

Bright Eyes - "Lua" (when i need to remember how sycophantic even "independent" music can be - and how people who are actually interested in music itself are constantly marginalized - this song is pure fatalistic, joyless bullshit from "the next Dylan" - do we really want or need another Dylan? - FUCK NO!)

The Better Beatles - 1981 demo tape (acquired through mysterious channels, this tape is by a 2-piece male-female duo - both singing ultra-deadpan, crude new-wavy versions of Beatles songs - one drums, the other plays a monochromatic, one-note series of ultra-modern deconstructions of the classic melodies on an ancient-sounding analog keyboard - reminds me that the greatest things are always ignored in favor of flashy, trendy BULLSHIT)

Sun City Girls - You're Never Alone With A Cigarette - Singles (1st installment of a projected multi-volume series of discs compiling early 7-inches - this one has the first part of the mega-rare double 7-inch "Three Fake Female Orgasms" - never thought in a million years that Alan would put these things out again, considering his nostalgia-smashing propensity for limited-edtion-one-time-only-releases - this is fucking awesome! - check it out!)

Comus - First Utterance (scary "folk" music from 70's weirdo collective - songs about necrophilia, blood, ritual, etc. - think it's been reissued on CD, but i'm not sure)

1/2 Japanese - 1/2 Gentlemen, Not Beasts (found 2 copies of this ultra-rare triple-disc debut in ultra-rare CD format at Eastside years ago - for 10 DOLLARS! - sat down to listen to the whole thing on my ipod alone in a bar the other night - felt extra good surrounded by cowboy-hatted steakheads who proabably wanted to beat me up)

and, a return to one of my (and many others') favorites:
Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica (the best pop album EVER! - so pleasant and sweet without pandering to conventional rhythm or melody - why have angry, solipsistic, histrionic lyrical concerns? - how about playing with yr. imagination to make something timeless? - polar opposite: aforementioned "Lua")
