Well, I like Explosions in the Sky so maybe I'll like it? I hope? The pitchfork review was confusing as hell, at any rate.

It's confusing, yet totally fitting. I love the shit out of their early stuff but now they've just become this formulaic pile of bullshit. I mean the first three songs do follow the same format as Mr. Beast. Here's our mellow building opener that has no pay off. Hey, here's our "rock song" that generically rocks but doesn't go beyond that. To go back and listen to some of the rawness and fucking force of their old stuff makes it even more disappointing. Yeah yeah, evolve grow whatever. Just don't suck while you're doing it.

I'm going to listen to it again on my ride home and hope my opinion changes.

EDIT: There's actually some good stuff on this album. If I separate my disappointment in Mogwai from the actual songs that is. Pretending it's another band helps.

I am listening to the demos of a band called The Beatles (hey they're not bad)--the Esher demos for some record called the White Album (though they just called it The Beatles). Anyone ever heard of these goof offs?

Also, next week I'll be listening to Cat Power at the Marquee Theater.

Eh? I dunno man, Explosions and Mogwai are both great post-rock bands doing very different things with the genre... I would hate if Explosions put out an album trying to sound like Mogwai (especially CODY oh how boring that would be), and likewise I would hate to hear a Mogwai album trying to sound like Explosions.

Diffrnt strokes I guess. Or maybe my supple young mind is too naive and accepting and hasn't been tormented enough with the pains of being an old man.

Anyways, I've had headphones on for 8 hours today, but I've just been listening to and editing voice overs... and I'm a software developer!? Something different, I just wish I could listen to music...

Yesterday I was on a total SY kick and listened to Sonic Nurse and Murray Street on my turntable, and then listened to them in my car, and listened to A Thousand Leaves before bed. This morning I listened to Rather Ripped on my way to work.
