I was surprised to learn they're considered "folk-punk" on Wikipedia. If they're folk punk then EVERYTHING is folk-punk in a way.

Never made it far enough into the album to notice that Julie Christmas from Battle of Mice did some guest vocals. I like her voice.
Anyway, this album has finally grown on me. The other one was more immediate, but I like this one a lot.

After only two complete listening sessions, I'm left with feeling a sense of "meh" so far. Nothing groundbreaking, but certainly not bad. Just more.The Mars Volta - Octahedron

It seems calmer/softer than previous albums too, which is somewhat disappointing.
I don't know - I'll reserve further judgment until I get some more listening time in (not to mention some smoking out and listening time). It usually takes some time for me to fully absorb their stuff and learn all the little intricacies and layers anyways.
Also listening to Deleted Scenes lately...
