#1408014 Controversial game opinions zone

^ 331erock is a "skilled" guitarist but still one of my least favourite musicians of all time.

Great guitar player and I can't hate someone who is clearly having that much fun, but I haven't watched a video of his in forever for that exact reason. EVERY SONG IS THE SAME

Also, "<video game title> but it's played by a classical musician on violin in a forest with a modestly large music video budget"

You can tell how passionate they are by the way they play violin like they're jockeying for position in a fucking mosh pit.
I've never seen 331erock actually seem to have fun; he has consistently been transparent as the most "manufactured happy" anyone can be, about everything he has played since his YouTube channel started, without exception.

Also, every YouTube violinist flails like that, and by doing that they convince people they're having neat quirky fun, but it really is obvious that they're playing the numbers game according to YouTube statistics. Watch any two videos by any two YouTube VGM violinists. It's like clockwork.

You can just say "Lindsey Stirling" when you mean Lindsey Stirling
No I couldn't because I wasn't thinking of Lindsey Stirling. There are dozens of her now, maybe even hundreds, and they're identical with the exception of physical appearance and sometimes sex/gender. And not once has it ever been fun to watch or listen to. But yeah, now that you mention it, Lindsey Stirling too; I mean, she started it anyway.

VGM YouTubers just bother me because the moment they genuinely hope to "make something" out of their YouTube channels, they all become hollow, puppet-like caricatures of what used to be relatable people. All of them. Views and ads don't care that you used to enjoy things. Upload on a schedule. Ride trends for more views. Sponsor products.

Witnessing celebrity status on the internet is like watching They Live all day, every day, on every internet-connected device that you own, but with more ads every time.

I don't think it's up to non-overweight people how overweight people should feel about Thor's weight being its own comedic device, just like with his alcoholism and depression and stuff. I thought they handled the ratio of jokes resulting from his natural personality versus his weight/alcoholism/depression pretty well, but it's not up to me how people's insecurities affect them when the insecurities themselves are due to society continuously shaming them for their weight, shape, height, and mental health.

I just think people should be excellent to each other, is all.

Just wanna chime in and say I also think you are great, Maiko. That's not to invalidate your feelings; just to remind you that we care about you and hope that your brain allows you to care about yourself too. Please continue to reach out when things get difficult!

I myself am experiencing apocalyptic thoughts and predictions of my future. Gonna be a dad by the end of January, and while there's a lot of excitement to be had about it, I also keep replaying sad scenarios in my head about having to explain why daddy is such a loser/failure and so lazy all the time. Why everything without exception gotta be so overwhelming all the time?

Went and saw Joker tonight. It was really good despite the director's seemingly desperate attempts to defame the movie with his shitty right-wing rhetoric. Definitely nothing in it that screamed "white dude in Hero's Journey" to me, either, despite the Internet's attempts to defame the movie with bizarre projections of themes that don't actually show up in the movie. I liked it a lot, and the final act was so full of "Yeah! Fuck yeah!" moments, as any good movie with any ties to superhero universes should be.

#1407384 BANDS!

Posted by Demonstray on 03 October 2019 - 03:20 PM

I'm confused. If you can't get your computer fixed, how are you going to pay for all that monitoring hardware?

Again, by not buying the $2000+ rig. I'd be building a rig that's similar in purpose and concept, but out of $1-30 parts (some in larger quantities than others) and with about $200-300 in tools (at most). I think that computer you linked me ends up around $500 CAD, so very similar cost and quite tempting. BUT, then there's the issue of I/O on top of that, where my rig is intended to be just all I/O and controls...but still, that PC is a hecc of a steal. I'll think about it!

TL;DR: Behringer rig for $2000 is the easier route, but my DIY theoretically costs a quarter as much, so I'm leaning heavily into the DIY scheme.

Please don’t be the band at a show that brings in ears or relies heavily on a backing track. Like 75% of the time it breaks and then everyone cringes while the band is like “trust me we’re good when our extremely precarious shit doesn’t break”.

I have seen this play out too many times and it’s painful to even watch.

Assume your gear will break every show, assume every PA system/sound guy will suck, and that every room will have awful acoustics. Then you’ll always play great, and when those things don’t happen you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, that's something I've been considering too. I think we'd be safe if we start out practicing on our amps though, so we at least are accustomed to the raw sound for 1-3 years. That said, I'll want to keep possible failures in mind going forward.

You know what would be real nice? If my brain would let me choose one hobby, stick with it for long enough, and get good at it.

What are you trying to do? Is this a hobby that has some skills that you built up previously? Learning a new instrument? You have some musical theory knowledge right? Learning a new art skill? You have some core art theory knowledge right? Also do little things that add up.
What I'm looking into right now is like nothing I've ever tried before. I'm noticing that the prices of the audio equipment I would need for a good, clean, and personalized monitoring system for my band are incredibly prohibitive, and to rectify that, I'm actively researching the work and tools involved in related DIY electronics.

EDIT 1: RE: Shawn, I definitely get you! You're always an inspiring dude so I didn't think you came off offensively or anything.

EDIT 2: Just caught up to speed on the Shnabubula news, holy shit I hope he's doing well...
