"don't mind the people on the board. people get so defensive, problem is that these peeps don't know you and how you are - a sarcastic and witty SOB." - SomethingElse via PM

I know I keep pressing this issue, so sorry. But, your Internet persona is NOT your real life persona. Just ask Donald about me. I'm pretty vocal about anything and everything on here, but at MAGfest Donald looked at me and said "The man with 4000 posts hasn't said a single word". You can't act one way on here and then say "It's ok, cus if you knew me in real life you'd like me"

the last post seems to contradict itself, doesn't it?

On one hand you admit that the on-line persona is not who we really are, but then say you can't act one-way here, and another way outside of Shizzneyland...

and certainly I'm not saying blah blah you'd like me.....I'm not concerned with that, really......I like to make sure that I'm representing myself accurately, that's all.....but in order to do that on-line, you have be totally aware of the subtleys of the medium...there is no body language, or sly grins....or mischevious twinkling eyes (my specialty)......
and in real life, nobody has ever just said, "dude, you're an asshole", to my face.....
I ultimately judge myself by those who call themselves my friends.....and I couldn't ask for a cooler bunch of personalities....
This ain't a popularity contest for me....It's just a fun way to bullshit and have a little fun.....and waste taxpayer dollars.

No, you can and will act two different ways. It's inevidable. But, you can't defend any bad posts you make on here by saying you act differently in real life.

I don't act differently in real life....in real life I'm surrounded by my friends, and I can be much more honest, abrasive, funny, etc....I don't have to tone anything down at all.....this is mixed company, y'know? We are strangers.....
I don't act differently, I'm just responded to differently.....I'm with different people, a different "audience", people who already love me, and love me for the very reasons that rub some the wrong way.....When you're a somewhat vibrant personality, outspoken, opinionated, etc....you're gonna rub some people the wrong way.....especially when you are among strangers......y' with me?

Vibrant: 1. Pulsing or throbbing with energy or activity: the vibrant streets of a big city.
2. Vigorous, lively, and vital: “a vibrant group that challenged the... system” (Philip Taubman).
3. Exhibiting or characterized by rapid, rhythmic movement back and forth or to and fro; vibrating.
4. Produced as a result of vibration; resonant or resounding: vibrant voices.
5. Relatively high on the scale of brightness: a vibrant hue.

what never ceases to amaze me is how often this group of talented, smart, funny, nice, and interesting people manages to allow themselves to be baited into arguing on a message board.  i mean seriously!  ninjas, please!

After having been involved in a few of these and having read many more, I think what's more surprising to me is how uncomfortable a lot of people get when an arguement breaks out. There's always a slew of posts in these threads where people try to call the arguers off and get everyone to 'get along' and be silly. I've grown to like an occasional drama thread, as long as it doesn't break into name-calling and people who refuse to use PM when it gets out of hand. Some good back and forth is healthy once and a while.
....

My plane leaves for PHX in 6 hours. See y'all there!

hey, i like drama as much as the next, some might say i loooove drama. (har har) AND these threads don't make me feel uncomfortable, but they are sure not "occasional" any more. i like to read debate, but when the debate is "you're a jerk!"...."NO, YOU'RE a jerk," it just gets kind of boring after awhile. (I know, I know, then just stop reading them, Kristin.) c'mon people, if you are going to fight, freakin' entertain me!!

ps: have an awesome flight colin! :D

pps: i way overslept today. so if this post makes no sense, my bad.

I've been out of town most of the last week and I've been glancing at this thread since I got back. Now that I've read through it all I thought I'd add something.

Everybody likes what they like for their own reasons. I think the primary thing that bugs people about HFE is not when he says something like "I'm not into video games, I don't understand how that's fun". It's a paragraph later when he starts saying "Well, you know, people are stupid". There's an unspoken progression that leads the reader to believe that if you are into something he's not, you're stupid. Or the insinuation that if you don't like the things that he does, you're stupid. I don't think that in itself is too cool. Just because something isn't for you doesn't mean it's dumb.

If your thing is death metal, so be it. If your thing is acoustic stuff so be it. What makes the shizz cool is that nobody on here buys into the corporate party line. I like that.

I'm sorry, but I truly believe that your cd collection doesn't mirror mine, exactly, I truly believe you must be stupid...what other explanation can there be?

oh wait...

;)

that'll make it alright....

and I think we all agree, that people, in general, are total retards....all of us....

I wasn't saying that I took it too seriously or that I needed you to validate that I was cool, and I wasn't saying you were serious, HFE. I was just saying that the insinuation sure seemed to get people riled up.

I'm about to start a new thread about the "real" stupid people we all refer to.
