Granted- not as many good shows come through town- but thats only cos everyone who comes through hears the locals saying what a fucking dump it is.
im sure the booking agents of the bands that skip phoenix do it because they "hear the locals say what a dump it is." im sure that's the reason. probably has nothing to do with draw. im sure your right. booking agents take trips to random cities and frequent message boards in those cities, and the minute someone says it a dump, the agent makes sure that person is a resident, and decides not to book the band in phoenix. i'm sure it has nothing to do with record sales and success of past shows. yep. you're right.

do you have to take everything so literally? kids are weird about going to shows these days- especially in arizona- that is why shows don't come through.

i remember when modified was half the size it is now and when the venues other than modified were nowhere near as nice as they are now. during the five years i've lived here, this place has totally gotten better. modified is the phoenix music scene's bossom fer sure.

I just thought there was kind of an understanding that we are all here to support local music, especially music made by people in the Shizz community....
He's been playing in lame bands that nobody likes for a long-ass time, & I'd say his perspective on the music thang in the Valley might have some validity.
I'm just sayin'.
And whether or not lots of people like yer band has nothing to do with whether or not it's any good. People go ga-ga over some pretty silly shit.
If Aaron wants to be the emo Roger Clyne, then I support him.

Frankly, CallMeSavage's posts have made me feel a lot better. She's been in towns other than here, and she says EVERY town is a little weird with people not making it out to shows...
...I mean, of course, I'd PREFER for us not to have that problem, but at least we're not alone.

what i am sick of is people claiming that someone on a local music message board (me in this case) has the power through his frustration to influence how cool or rad or hip or supportive this place is. not one person has successfully refuted the following arguement.
more people should care in this town than do.
it is the truth. sorry if i continually sound like a grumpy pants. my observation is not negative or positive. if you agree with me, it doesnt mean that this town sucks.
my mom loves elliot smith because i made her listen. if more people involved themselves with the arts in this town, those people would enjoy it and probably involve themselves more. that is it. ca i get an amen? i've been trying for 10 pages to get an amen!!!!!
