Aaron, I agree. More people should care. We can get more people into this thing of ours if we show them it.

I think where you and a lot of people on this board part is, where they say, "Yea! Phoenix! We can do it!", you seem to say, "This town is lame."

You agree on the means, but not the ends. You seem to have a negative viewpoint about how it's going to turn out.

Not that I've disagreed with you... I hate it when people get all squirelly at me when I show something other than my normal happy-go-lucky self. People are entitled to their anger and bitterness and dreams of revenge, goddammit.

But what everyone's saying now is... come inside from the rain. It's going to be okay. Don't be mad at the town anymore, let's just work on doing what we need to do.

I still see the point made about it being weird EVERYWHERE for shows right now, not just PHX... but I still think we should try to do something about it.

i remember when modified was half the size it is now and when the venues other than modified were nowhere near as nice as they are now.

I think everybody should take a moment and think about what happened in Tucson last night. While you may not go to these kind of shows, while these may not be your kind of bands, there's many of you and many of the people who were at that show who all stand for the same thing. Maybe there's bigger problems than just who books who where for what show and whatever shit this band talks about that band or that promoter talks about this venue owner...

i hope this doesn't offend any friends i have on this board, but there seems to be a bit of a swollen sense of importance in regard to the shizz and arizona music. the shizz is a very small community and does not represent any substantial portion of any music scene in arizona, other than the handful of bands who regularly post on here. all cool bands, yes, but it doesn't even represent every band that members of those bands are also members of.

it's been my general sense, when reading the 'grand cayenne' thread and now the 'what can phoenix do' thread, that a lot of the responses, on both sides of the argument, are based on a notion that the shizz is farther reaching, and more influential on arizona music, than it actually is. something about the tone of some of, um, your posts made me think of it. i guess i'm just being pissy by pointing it out. don't go changin'.

No, I don't mean just the Shizz when I talk about stuff. When I discuss "community," I mean something much broader than just Shizz bands or just the people on this board. However, if we're having a discussion about "what can 'we' do," then the "we" is certainly only going to be anyone participating in the discussion on the board. So even if I came off as meaning what you thought, that's not what I meant for you to think I mean. Does that make sense?

Brodie, that's cool you want to get to the bottom of things, and we should all be aware of what is going on, but what you are asking in your last quote is to instigate more drama for a thread that should have died awhile ago.

I don't think discussion, even if heated, is "drama." I think everyone needs to be a little less afraid of offending each other and a little more invested in calling each other on their shit, figuring out what's going to make things better. That is, if we want this to still be a resource to better the music community.
