it's definitely got game written all over it, but that's got
to be by design. they've alluded to it the whole time with
the 'rules' etc, backgammon in the 1st season with white vs
black, the white vs black stones between smokey and
jacob always being a 'joke', and now i think the end of last
nite's ep added to it. if richard's wife told hugo that
richard has to stop the man in black or else they really are
all going to hell, and jacob is behind hugo's seeing of dead
folks anyway, just seems like another one of jacob's master
ways to get someone to do exactly what he wants.

but, i think the man in black/smoke monster may be loki (or some
variant thereof). there's always a horn call to summon it and bring it
back.

i don't read lostpedia or anything else online about the show,
most of the stuff written is garbage and i don't want to have
anything spoiled anyway. it took me 10 min to figure out if i
really wanted to post this or even read some of this thread

i also was thinking (going away from the game thing) that jacob is a keeper of smokey aka jacob is the devil and the island is hell and no one leaves hell. eh maybe?

i would hope that the island is not hell or purgatory,
the creators have already said it is not. lately the
horn calls to both bring and retrieve smokey have got
me thinking a ton, and maybe there is someone else involved
here, or yeah, it very well could be jacob that is smokey's
keeper, and doesn't want to let him go, even though they
might be on the same side (evil).

that last part, with them both being evil but jacob
being smokey's keeper, lends credence to the game idea
too, especially the 'white vs black' stones always being
thrown about as a joke, i.e. jacob joshing with smokey
that he's actually the good guy, when they both know
they are bad to the bone. but then, why is jacob keeping
smokey prisoner in that case.

since it's combined a ton of religious iconography etc
into it already, i am hoping the island/lost has something
to do with the origin of all religion or something similar.
would explain how they can get to other places across the
world easily etc. different peoples saw different things
and started different religions.

finally, i think we got a real clue last night in that
jacob was suprised that the man in black tried to kill him.
this strikes me as odd in that kind of situation. seems
to me they might either be related then or on the same side
overall. why would jacob be surprised?

didn't smoke say he could bring back richards wife? and jacob said he could not do that but he could let richard live forever? so they have different abilities, but still why is it that jacob has the power to decide who stays and who goes?

i just hope it doesn't turn out to be a giant spider in the end, giant spiders are so dumb and ruin lots of good plot lines

or what about the hieroglyphics and the temple and where jacob lives being a anubis. maybe they are aliens like in stargate, i like aliens about as much as i like giant spiders

there was a scale with a black and white rock in the cliff cave where all the names are, richard is living forever, the demon ammit the destroyer sounds like the smoke monster?

I'm pretty piseed off by the fact that Jacob was killed by a person stabbing him in the chest yet smokey can't be killed. That seems pretty lame. Why hasn't anyone killed Jacob before then, if smokey knew this all along? After allllll these years. Smokey just now thought of it? I mean he can totally trick people by taking on the persona of anyone.

I haven't watched the newest eppy yet but I heard that it's pretty awesome. Answers all the questions we have about Richard. Can't wait to watch.

well that theory has already been defeated when Ben killed Jacob. He spoke before knife was plunged into him.

pretty sure jacob knew he was gonna be killed though...isn't
that why he set up the whole flight full of folks crashing,
touching everyone he would need later so that they could create
an alternate timeline that would make sure jacob won in the end.
