So I looked on Lostpedia and apparently Richard answered "He who will protect us." Also according to Lostpedia: The statue is of Taweret, the Egyptian goddess of fertility.

Interesting that a goddess of fertility towered over an island where (supposedly) conception/birth could not happen. hmmmm

did this whole show come down to two dudes, one (that wears black) who really wants to kill the other but can't for some reason and is searching for a loop hole in the rules to do it and the other (wears white) who seems to believe people can get along on a magical island without killing each other and continues to be proven wrong time and time again?

and the loop hole he was looking for ended up being manipulating the next group of people so that one of them kills him instead, but maybe not in time to start the whole event over again?

would be ok with getting killed, when the smokey man
said 'one day i'll find a loophole', he said 'i'll be right here

is more than about the struggle between smokey and jacob.

YES! The red herring. There is now way that this show would be so obvious as to do the whole good guy in white v. bad guy in black think. Its way to simple.

I actually think Jacob is a "bad" guy or whatever that even means. He perpetuated some negative things: no consequences for kate stealing cause he bailed her out of the situation. gives sawyer a pen so he can finish the letter he carries around with him, completely fixating on what happened when he was a kid

I don't think he's a dick... the whole "what about you" kind of goes along w/ everyone has a choice. He even said it. You have a choice.

There is so much mythology wrapped up in this, I love it. I really liked Juliet this season. I read a lot of theories about Jacob and the other guy, people thinking it was referring to the Bible story of two brothers who always fight. I hope it isn't a bunch of Christian things.

Also, Jacob is kind of sexy.

There are so many things going through my head but I can't put them into words.

There is so much mythology wrapped up in this, I love it. I really liked Juliet this season. I read a lot of theories about Jacob and the other guy, people thinking it was referring to the Bible story of two brothers who always fight. I hope it isn't a bunch of Christian things.

Also, Jacob is kind of sexy.

Esau and Jacob

Here's the thing with what Jacob said to Ben though. Ben has been fed this line of shit from Richard all these years about Jacob, his role in the island etc. and Ben now realizes/feels like its ben a lie so he asks about it and gets a"yeah, so?" Kind of a dick.

Part of me likes it a lot cause I think that's what you get for having blind faith in anything but in the context of the show...
