black bean tamale sounds tasty. I like black beans a lot.
I make a super tasty vegan green chile/corn tamale.

my buddy lives down the block from there and we wondering whats up with it...and i had some more stuff from Sunshine and Spice. definitely glad i gave another try! the tacos are still a no go, but other stuff is greatate at asi es la vida last night. that place was awesome. no mexi beer but they had freeze watermelon, pineapple, and cantaloupe juice. the food was excellent. it was a bit pricey but you get a pretty good size plate. my gf and i got an appetizer, shared an entree, got two drinks, and a dessert for like $42.

i've got probably the least discriminating palate around so i'm a horrible food critic. but what i dug about this place is that it wasn't your typical menu full of chimichangas and nachos. i don't know if they're featuring food from a different region of mexico than most other places (and i know most of that is all americanized anyway) but they had entrees i'd never seen on a mexican food restaurant's menu before and that was cool to me. of course i liked everything i ate there. which is typical for me. but what i liked most is that they had things i hadn't tried before and might have thought i wouldn't like before trying it. so yeah.. i'll be going back.
plus it's very unassuming. every time i'd drive by it i thought it looked like some glorified "'bertos" place. definitely not. oh, and you can bring your own beer and wine to drink since they don't serve. i believe they said there was a corking service fee, however.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.
