I like ST okay and Shatner is amazing, but I'm more of an SW (original trilogy) person.

I never really was exposed to too much ST when I was growing up, so I never got too much into it.

Overall, ST is better science fiction whereas SW (OT) makes for good fantasy. I think the difference is that ST is kind of a thoughtful look at people's navigation of humanity and the ups and downs within that whereas SW pushes the journey of the individual. The crew of the Enterprise are ultimately in service of the prime directive (or bringing peace to whoever they encounter or whatever) while Luke & Crew are just individuals who happen to wield the Force (a supposedly all-powerful entity that flows throw everyone) or their personal skills for personal achievement which happens to align with the good of the universe.

Or something.

Anyway, I never really caught ST or the movies, but the movies seem kind of boring (with the exception of ST2: Wrath of Khan - which I'm going to watch for the first time soon).

I like TNG and the last tv show with Quantum Leap dude seemed neat (albeit with a cheesy theme song - never really watched it, though).

I've heard Deep Space 9 is good, but I kind of fell hard for Voyager for some reason. I'd get home late and watch it syndicated on channel 45. It's apparently the weakest of all of the series, but it entertained me - especially time traveling episodes.

Oh yeah! That's what I really liked about TNG - time traveling and Q and playing around with time & space. That was always done really well.

As far SW beyond the original trilogy ...

Episodes I-III largely suck (in comparison to the OT - they can still be watchable and fun here and there) with Ep I being the worst of them all.

People got on Lucas for dumbing them down for the sake of kids (and $$$). I don't blame him for that - SW was always kind of for the kids, but adults seemed to take to it really well (ala the Harry Potter books). And, Lucas was always all about making cash.

What got really dumb was him explaining away all the fun & mystery of Ep. Iv-Vi in an attempt to edify SW nerds. Instead of making Eps I-III kind of sovereign stories that happened to share one villain with the original trilogy by the end of their cycle, Lucas had to make sure that everything pointed back to the original trilogy.

I think if you cut all of the fat and dumb stuff out of all three movies and put what's left together, you'd have one really badass prequel flick.

Speaking of badasses, the original trilogy had Darth Vader - a total fucking badass. Sure, the reality of the Borg is scary, but not like a motherfucker who can crush your throat from across the room and would do so just because he was bored. So, yeah - you can't spell boring without the letters B-O-R-G.

Then, Lucas screwed things up by having the origin of Vader end up being some shapeless, whiny pussy who got poured into an awesome shell. Boo.

darth vader doesn't scare me at all. He's just a big selfish baby who is wrapped up in self pity and the blame game thinking he can be happy by having more power

the borg... resistance is futile

the sand monster thingy is scarier because well, you're food haha being something's or someone's food scares the hell out of me

even scarier... reavers from firefly/serenity
