Likewise.
and more importantly, I have never played a show at library.
yet.
Sorry Phoenix; I've been busy, off writing "nonsensical" articles about media ownership, illegal corporate practices, etc...
Ooops. Sorry. Back from washing my knickers, and making "silly" complaints about things that could POSSIBLY improve our existence.
How dare I?
Not to kick a dead horse Shane, but facts ARE important: it was the Art Museum, not the library that I first heard the slew of belligerent chatter.
My mistake. I don't want to single out one person though, my description was simply a microcosm of what I saw when I visited home (Phoenix) for a few weeks; as I do every year.
Furthermore, I find it interesting that NOT ONE of you (on the Shizz board) could acknowledge (ANY possible) problems with your "scene" (or god forbid your site itself.). What Donald does here is great, but what of the rest of you?
My mistake once again, obviously I crticized Utopia!!! the perfect scene! OOPS! I'm not looking to simply rag on Phoenix, just improve it. Is that too much?
If so, my deepest apologies.
Historically speaking, if people don't complain, how does anything improve? Ever?
I'm out on a limb here, Jeff Gonzales asked me to let the issue go, and I will; gladly, when someone replies with some CONSTRUCTIVE advice, without the defensive attitude much too often becoming of the Phoenix Music Scene/Urban Sprawl Cheerleading Team.
To clarify, LA sucks too. In many ways. But at least we seem to have the humility to admit it (and try to make it better).
Inclusion (as opposed to elitism) is key. When will phoenix grasp and embrace that?
**If only some of you were as defensive about your political rights and individual feedoms... we'd be in much better shape/
Love Always.

historically speaking, people complain then do something about it. not just continue to flog a dead horse topic.
dear H.F, thanks for your thoughts, phoenix will get right on it, and next time you visit, hopefully you will see some improvement.
thanks

-trunkspaceAll the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

so i take it you don't read our board at all. or if you do, it's superficial at best. the diversity of the bands and artists that post here is pretty significant - just look at the shows forum. anyone is allowed to post. we (the shizz, part of the elitist community you seem to have a problem with) are also putting on a festival in a little over 8 hours. yes, there are bands that you might call "shizz bands" that are playing. that's because we want to appeal to a lot of the people on this forum that have been part of it and helped it grow over the last several years. i will not apologize for that. but there are also a number of bands from outside our little sewing circle who were included in the hopes that we might bring some attention to other artists in the valley. i hope that's constructive enough for you.
also, i'm sorry you don't like our little website. which local music website did you build? i'd like to check it out and get some ideas on how to improve ours. it is flawed, and donald and the team of volunteers who run it are pretty busy. changes are on the way (again, if you'd read any of the posts on the board, you'd probably see that). tell you what, since you're not happy we'll refund your money, okay?
and yes, i'm defensive because you're making blanket statements about people in this musical community without doing any kind of research or showing any objectivity - just using your sour experience at a show as the basis for your shit-stirring. as a "writer", you should know better. i put it in quotes since i can't seem to find anything relevant that you've written in any legitimate publication. but i'm not a "writer" either, so i stopped looking after my google search didn't yield any results in the first 5 pages.
yeah, phoenix is not a perfect town for music. a lot of people are trying to make it better. and a lot of trolls like to sit behind their computers and complain. i'd invite you out today to see how inclusive our community can be, but you're probably not in phoenix. also, i don't give a fuck if you approve of us or not. i'm not responding for you. i'm responding for everyone else that's reading your shit and wondering if phoenix really is a lousy place for music. it's not. come out this evening and see for yourself. or go to the yucca tap room and check out the huge benefit show that rodney is putting on - it's going to be amazing. or go to the modified and see milkwork. or to the sail inn and see zen lunatics. or green lady killers at the ruby room. or any of the other shows that are happening tonight. but don't sit at home and lament our town, or worse, try and compare us to los angeles. los angeles? seriously? pass.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

ONE-if you have a good sense for public relations and have an out going and friendly constitution people will come see your band. it simply does not matter whether or not your bands suck. ive been practicing smiling while gazing into the mirror. ive also been brushing my teeth more often and more efficiently. oh yes, and the use of deodorant, yes, more often with the deodorant. i would like nothing more than when people think of me, for them to have only thoughts of puppy dogs and sunshine. i want in on this new group of people on the shizz. i want them to like me. ive alienated myself and have had a poor attitude.
TWO- hepatitis C is rampid in phoenix.
on a side note, i wont be going to any of those shows tonite. ill be having friends over(i do have some of those left) and considering the fact and or possibility that i just might be the master of my own universe.
how many people here google themselves and or band on a daily basis? all you folks are duper!

it seems to me there are two very important things to remember here:

You're awfully defensive for this being "just a discussion boatd." What are you so afraid of losing?

Great. Good work. Keep trying to make it better, just don't be surprised if, in the meantime folks see you and your city as a joke.

I've been a Shizz member since 2005, so apparently I don't read "your" board at all.
Only 4 years or so...
Great job. Good work. Keep trying to make it better, just don't be surprised if, in the meantime folks see your music "scene" in your city as a joke.
