there was still and upstairs...anyone remember that?

def saw more upstairs shows than downstairs shows.

Jeremi, He means like upstairs from the upstairs.

I never saw a show up there but well I thought thats where Corey stashed all the money he made off local bands.

i saw waaaaay too many shows to list there, but it is where the first two shows i booked/worked with were, ETA and VITAMIN X in 2001. i had already been going for 6 years at that point. my old crew pretty much grew up there and were there almost every weekend for one stretch.

also this asshole kid i went to school with took some ecstasy and then ran over a cop there.

i smoked FYP out in the parking lot

i could literally write pages about stuff that happened there

hahahahaha, i saw (but actually turned down touching) my first single boob at the nile. this trainhopper punk was trying to basically whore his lady out at me and he pulled one side of her shirt down and she licked my mouth. she stank. i was 14. i bailed. then when Propagandhi played i saw my next sets of naked tits, and lots of punk penis as a bunch of people took their clothes off.

ahhhh memories

I was banned from there (well the band was, actually).

However, I did see an early incarnation of Marilyn Manson there. I was thinking, "hey, this guy is stealing Alice Cooper's schtick."

i don't know if they were the final nail or not but they were a few of many.. at that crash worship show, everyone got kicked out and the band was performing in the alley and parking lot. fire trucks and cops swarmed the area and there was a chopper overhead telling everyone to disperse.. good times.. great oldies.

Since were getting all sentimental on this place, one of the better shows I have seen down here in PHX was a Locust/Le Shok show in the Nile Basement not sure the year but it was around '00 and it was either New Year's Eve or New Years Day.

At the time, it was almost as if you went to see either of these bands to listen to them banter with or berate the audience. Le Shok had a pretty good set but sonically, the sound was crap and the singer, Hot Rod Todd kept razzing the sound guy like, "C'mon man, I shared my cocaine with you. Let's make this happen," or "This is probably good for Napalm Death but we can't play this way. As if I know anything about speed metal." Something like that. It was fucking funny though.

And some kids brought backpacks full of bagels and started hurling them at the Locust during their set. That was pretty good.

Thinking back, this must have been New Year's Day 2001.

Postscript: I went to that ETA show that Joe.Distort mentioned. Fucking ETA was rad!!! 138 from DS-13 on bass.

that locust show was new years day, with I AM SPOONBENDER too! pearson punched one of those assholes throwing muffins right in the face during their last song. probably the most fun LOCUST show, and somehow the only time i saw LE SHOK?

and i think EROTICIDE caused the eventual loss of the liquor license from the violations, which led to the closure/renovation. at the end it seemed it just kind of petered out. i dont know what killed it for real.

"The Nile Basement will reopen as "The Underground" on February 19, 2010"

"starting on November 19th bands will start to grace the stage of the Nile basement once again."

I am sure the place needs to be fixed up a little but what's the hold up?
