-trunkspaceAll the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

Ok, I didn't sell chiclets. But I do love all those kids that do. I'd squish them all of I could!
My first job was when I was 14.
My power cousin and I worked for this man that owned a shaved ice cart he parked in front of walmart. Did this for two summer in row. It's also where I started to learn Spanish.
My Spanish sucked back then so when people would ask me for a "rasapdo" (snow cone) I thought they were asking for a raspberry flavored snow cone or if they'd ask for Pina (pineapple) I'd give them pina colada and I'd have no idea why they'd be confused or mad when they took their cone and left.
Also one time this lady asked me for a vanilla flavored cone in Spanish and I'm like "ok this time I know this one!" because vanilla sounds the same in spanish. So I'm pouring the flavor on it and she's pointing at me going "Mosca" and I'm looking at her like "what? Yea vanilla snow cone" and she's all "No. mosca" and she points to the bottle of flavoring and there is this nar fly floating dead in the bottle. That's how I learned what a "fly" was called in Spanish
That job was too much fun. We did whatever we wanted and made pretty sweet tips from being silly and playful with customers. Probably the best job I ever had since!

My first REAL job was at the Target up in Cave Creek when I was 16. I did some cashiering, but ended up working the returns desk most of the time. I think their strategy was to put the relatively young and cute girls on the returns desk to deal with the angry people, because it was usually me and a couple other gals from my high school. I got a lot of good experience dealing with jerks, though, and it's served me well in my library work.

My first job was when I was in 6th grade, tutoring younger kids at the elementary school. I got paid something like $2 an hour to make sure this kid Ricardo did his homework. He gave me a hard time at first, but we kind of ended up being buddies.

i worked at the cave creek walgreens circa 1996/1997
prior to that i worked at pizzafarros in carefree for like 6 months in 1995.
but when the walgreens opened, they were paying 5 bucks an hour vs. the 4.75 at the pizza place, so it was no contest for my teen self.
