to pinpoint their eccectic nature:

Almost all my Randy Newman LP collection was purchased there.

Also, my Star Trek record where Spock's dad talked about how he knocked up an Earth woman.

Also, a MONKS' reissue 7"

so, inconclusion: damn.

i remember my first trip to eastside, and i imagine i always will. to me, eastside is tempe. what reason will i have to go to tempe when eastside is gone?

yeah...i was probably going to switch comics shops soon and this just fuels that. my weekly trip is for comics/food/records/zines/random crap from wet paint/etc. but if theres no record store, it just makes me want to go even less.

and saying theres a lot of record stores is true, but i have never seen a HATRED SURGE or IRON LUNG (for example) record in another store come in new. for some of us, Eastside is the last place that even carries the music we like

so it goes. i do it several times a year. tucson's got the best thrift stores too. see, i live in phoenix's northernmost suburb. it's called flagstaff. so a two hour drive to nicely priced vinyl has been my reality for quite some time now. you get used to it.

I am sad to hear any local small business go under; a record store at that? A travesty.

I do, however, do not really have any great experiences with Eastside as a record store.

(the exception being the Godheadsilo show I saw there in like 96 or 97).

I think I wen't with you to that show. Wasn't it in the parking lot? That was an awesome thing to see.

I remember it being inside, with just the two of them. Dude was playing bass through like 8 amps and using a footswitch
to turn on a tape deck with prerecorded noise. Epic for a duo. Oh, and the drummer had these toms that were like
4 feet long. Not even BS. Fookin wee ahd

and if eastside sold online maybe they'd still be open after january.

edit/update: i'm not saying i'd rather shop online than go to a place like eastside - i'd always rather be able to browse and support a local. even for the obscure stuff i mentioned in the earlier posts. but i'm absolutely going to use the internet to help find what i'm looking for, even if i physically go into a store to buy it. online competition is a reality, and you can't wish it away, so if you can't adapt to it then you're probably not going to survive. i don't know enough about eastside to know if that's something they tried to do or not, and it's not my place to pass judgment on somebody's business plan (especially if they managed to survive as long as eastside did). i certainly don't want to see a local business fail. nothing lasts forever, though.

Emperors of Japan

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.
