Vampire Weekend - EP (an indie act from New York, with Peter Gabirel and ska influences. very good. very interesting.)
Neutral Milk Hotel - In an Aeroplane Over the Sea (from what I hear, these guys are overrated by the "indie press" but I don't think you could possibly over-rate this act. After a few listents it should tug on your heart strings and draw on deeper emotions. Awesome...)

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

Vampire Weekend is amazing live. They played Modified a couple months ago. They definitely have way more material than that three song EP too...Supposedly, they have a full length album coming out January 2008.

just checked them out on myspace. "interesting" wouldn't be my adjective of choice.
I guess that it is sort of interesting that they don't have the typical New York sound that is popular right now. They sound like they would either be from somewhere like Louisiana, or possibly Maine.

A lot.
I'm attracted to them in the exact same way I was attracted to the Jesus and Mary Chain about 16 years ago.
And it's really fucking cool.

i bought the vinyl reissue of joy division's 'unknown pleasures' yesterday.
it sounds so fucking good.
Play loud. That's all I have to offer.
EDIT: Regarding the Slint records you got: listen to the b-side of the 10" super fucking loud, too. It's a longer version of Rhoda from Tweez, and it's up there with Good Morning Captain with regards to complete awesomeness.

I am in love with this album.
EDIT: Also listening to the new Iron & Wine. Very very good. House By the Sea might be one of his best songs.
