that Stereolab album finally agreed with me a few months ago when i was searching all around PHX for a new place to live - it's kind of meandering, but the focused songs found there are some of their best - the first side of that album is nearly perfect - i remember it most for being the album they were touring behind when they visited the Bash on Ash - anyone remember that show? - Stereolab at the Bash?! - it was just as weird as i thought it would be

ahem...
Instant Composers Pool Orchestra - Aan & Uit
Ut - In Gut's House
To Live and Shave In L.A. - The Wigmaker in 18th Century Williamsburg
Tim Berne's Bloodcount - Memory Select
Alex Chilton/Ben Vaughn/Alan Vega - Cubist Blues (if you like any of these 3 artists even a little bit, you have to check this one out, people - it's one of those things where 3 disparate artists get together and make something that sounds like nothing any of them have ever done - WHOA!!!) -

be good! -

I hadn't listened to it for a couple years until yesterday, I had kind of forgotten about it. Definitely agree with the meandering part. The middle is just too damn long and goes nowhere. They redeem the album with the last two songs through.

I haven't given this a listen in a while either. I listened to the first 4 songs in my car on the way to work this morning. I'll pay extra attention for the aimless meandering and subsequent redemption.

I miss having an ipod at work. :(

By the way, that Austerity Program album I mentioned earlier is probably a better spiritual successor to Big Black than Shellac.

There. I said it. And I said it as a huge fan of Big Black.
