bob weston is saying that the mbv cd, while it may be quiet, is one of the fullest sounding records ever made, thus there is no need to 'pump up the volume' of the original recording, which seems to be the common practice of the day.
raub needs to stop whining about having to use the volume knob on his stereo.
jomama needs to read the entire essay.

Should be interesting to hear them live in April (that is, if the Coachella reunion rumors are true).
Freals? I was actually telling my friend Iverson that it would take something along the lines of a MBV reunion to get me back to Coachella these days.
Damn.

raub is saying that cds from that period are too quiet.

noooo! that's not what i'm saying! i'm saying they are quiet, but quiet in a way that totally ruins the dynamics of the instruments half the time.
i was listening to Loveless yesterday, and as incredible as that album is, there's like... 0 dynamics and all the instruments are mashed together.
turning the volume up is not a solution, because the louder you go, the more the music loses integrity through the speakers, either because of shitty speakers or because when you turn the volume up, the treble is cranked up more than the bass.
the volume knob is not a magical key to making crummily mixed CDs sound better, and really just makes them sound shittier.

Holy crap, I forgot all about Les Thugs. I need to procure a copy of the pink record too. Not a huge SDRE fan, but that album is good stuff.
